Mr. Brian Linton – Garnet Technologies 1. Welcome - Opening Remarks</p><p>1.1 Mr. Reginald Bourne – Chief Telecommunications Officer welcomed the members of the CTU ICT Roadshow Committee. He informed them that the purpose of the meeting was to create ideas for implementation into the final programme of activities. He also stated that the Provisional programme is currently on the website telecoms.gov.bb.</p><p>2. The ICT Roadshow</p><p>2.1 Mr. Bourne told the meeting that previous meetings were held via teleconferences and Mr. Rodney Taylor of the CTU was on hand to assist with the realization of the CTU ICT Roadshow.</p><p>2.2 He stressed that the Provisional Programme ‘Activities at a Glance’ was not written in stone and new ideas emanating from the various Committees will be incorporated making it a better programme.</p><p>2.3 Mr. Rodney Taylor of the CTU acknowledged that LIME was one of the regional sponsors and was eagerly looking forward towards more sponsorship emphasizing that the level of sponsorship would determine the speaking slot and the subject areas e.g Broadband etc.</p><p>2.4 He added that formal requests for sponsorship would be sent to other regional companies such as Fortinet, Fujitsu, Digicel, and ARIN. </p><p>2.5 He said that he was anticipating that the sponsors for the Techno Village would be able to offer prizes, like smart phones and ipads. </p><p>2.6 He recalled that the ICT Roadshow was conceptualized in 2009, involving 16 countries and that the last was held in Dominica. </p><p>2.7 He noted that the objective of the ICT RoadShow was to reach all sectors of the community from school children to seniors. </p><p>2.8 The ICT Roadshow is intended to highlight all advances in ICT Technology being made in Barbados.</p><p>3. Techno Village</p><p>3.1 Techno Village scheduled for Heroes Square will see companies like Mobile service providers, Public Utility Companies, Inland Revenue taking part. It will also provide free Wi-fi services and hands-on information.</p><p>2 3.2 A similar activity held in St. Kitts was sponsored by the European Union. The scale of the planned event In Barbados will depend on the level of sponsorship.</p><p>3.3 One of the topics to be discussed ‘Power is in your hands’ – will feature the usage of the smart phone and the alike.</p><p>4. Community Outreach – Silver Surfer </p><p>4.1 This Outreach programme is geared especially towards retired persons in order to help them better manage such items online as bills and taxes.</p><p>5. ICT Innovation and Investment Forum</p><p>5.1 This Forum will be held at the Hilton Hotel. There will be a registration fee which will help to offset the costs of inviting two international speakers. Local speakers are also expected to take part in the Forum. All the other events are free.</p><p>6. ICT – Education Forum </p><p>6.1 The CXC will make a presentation targeted at primary and secondary school children. The Forum will also address the One Laptop per Child Initiative.</p><p>6.2 The discussion on whether the ICT Education Forum should address the question on open higher education was discussed. The matter introducing new concepts on line and the scope and if they can identify persons who are interested in different groups was also raised. </p><p>6.3 The meeting was informed that the UWI had a framework for online education.</p><p>6.4 The use of Open Source Software benefit in schools was also discussed.</p><p>7. Outreach - Fisherfolk</p><p>7.1 It was suggested that Dr. Kim Mallalieu, St. Augustine Campus, who gave a multimedia production in St. Kitts would be invited to make a similar presentation on the use of cell phone at sea. Local applications for cell phones would also be welcomed.</p><p>7.2 A query regarding the venue for the fisherfolk outreach activities was made. No decision on the venue was reached.</p><p>8. Farmers Forum</p><p>8.1 It was recommended that an invitation should be sent to the National Union of Farmers.</p><p>3 9. Cyber Security Forum</p><p>9.1 The CTO informed the meeting that the Cyber Security Forum was aimed at developing a strategy for Barbados and to address security issues.</p><p>9.2 He also informed the meeting that the Unit was currently seeking technical assistance from the ITU in Cyber Security. A Cyber Security Workshop will be held in Grenada in August, 2012.</p><p>10. General Interest Forum </p><p>10.1 This will take the form of a panel discussion, and will focus on the business aspect the next step to take.</p><p>11. ICT Tourism Forum</p><p>11.1 It was suggested that a documentary promoting Barbados’ high profile in the use of ICTs will be made and distributed through the Tempo Network which would highlight Barbados as a destination where people can do business. </p><p>11.2 ICT Tourism Forum will also focus on case studies, challenges facing tourism and with the initiative by the Barbados Entrepreneurship Foundation of free wi-fi, cruise ship passengers and tourists in general would be able to access the internet throughout Barbados.</p><p>11.3 The meeting was advised that the Barbados Tourism Authority should be involved in the marketing of the Forum and should be contacted to bring them onboard.</p><p>12.0 Expression of Interest – Formation of Sub-Committee 12.1 The following persons have volunteered to form part of the Sub-Committee: 12.1.1 Techno Village </p><p>Andrew Jemmott – Caribbean Webcast Anton Shepherd - CTS Troy Weekes – Ezlearner Inc. Police representative</p><p>13.0 Any Other Business</p><p>13.1 The CBC is fully on board and CITA is willing to make a contribution. 13.2 SLAM promised to provide assistance with the promotion of the Roadshow through its radio stations.</p><p>5 13.3 BANGO is interested in networking, outputs from stations, streaming during and before events. 13.4 It was suggested that Barbados should explore the possibility of establishing an Internet Exchange Points (IXP). 13.5 Mr. Devonish suggested that the objectives of the Roadshow should be clearly defined and measurable leading to specific outputs. 14.0 Action Points 14.1 Contact Non-Governmental Organisation re National Union of Farmers to provide contact, also MESA organization. 14.2 Fishing Folk Outreach - Committee to decide on where this should be held. 14.3 Draft Letters to Barbados Board of Tourism Re: marketing aspect and to invite the Bankers Association. 14.4 CTU to send letters to the sponsors.</p><p>15.0 The meeting ended at 12.05 p.m.</p><p>2012-07-06</p><p>6</p>
