Assistant dean is currently Bridget Irish.  Should honors move over to Assoc VPAA?  SOBA has had an assistant dean and would now have an Assoc Dean, also adding career services  Targeting shift in July at start of new fiscal year  Institutional organization chart on website is out of date  Took recommendations from reorganization task force, discussed difference between director and associate dean titles, titles do matter in the academy; discussion of whether to have divisions among disciplines.  AHSS dean is to promote savings? this is a way to bridge community, savings is a by- product and this structure is more typical of liberal arts programs at other schools  Additive is one more associate dean position; summer month, course release for the associate deans/assistant deans positions. With reorganization can add two new faculty lines  Assessment under SOBA is for their own programs, not college wide.  Dean with a 135 faculty members and a dean with a lot fewer, seems iniquitous; Yes, this was discussed. SOB deans have more external focus. Number of majors in SOBA is fairly high, so there is a lot being offered.  Evolving plan for teacher education as that program grows  Career services will be under each school i.e. one for AS and one for SOBA  Communication piece of this, been talking about it. Concerns moving forward.  Innovative month comes under continuing education; developing a policy and would go under international programs.  3 year terms for associate and assistant deans; but could remain if interested  Representation by school, how do you then think about representation. May not need to change immediately.  Get this public.

Curriculum Committee Consent Items:

Course/Program Title Change

Phil 274 Ancient & Medieval Philosophy Cat dscrp ED 489 Practicum in College Teaching Title prereq Motion to approve Jonathan Latta; seconded by Amy Wendland; approved by all.

2 | P a g e Curriculum Committee Action Items:

Course/Program Title Change

Native American and Indigenous Prgm Prop Studies-Major Native American and Indigenous Prgm Prop Studies-Minor NAIS 1xx Bala Sinem Choir New Course NAIS 100 Fund Navajo Language I Credits Cat dscrp NAIS 101 Fund Navajo Language II Credits Cat dscrp NAIS 110 Intro Native Amer Indig Studies Credits Cat dscrp NAIS 123 Native American History Credits Cat dscrp NAIS 215 Intertribal News Wrtg New Course NAIS 280 Contemp Iss of Native Nations Title Credits Cat dscrp Prereq Title Credits Cat NAIS 301 Research & Writing in NAIS dscrp NAIS 315 Advanced Intertribal News Wrtg Title Credits Cat dscrp NAIS 317 Indig Ppls in Film and Media Title Credits Cat dscrp NAIS 322 NA Religion and Spirituality Title Credits Cat dscrp NAIS 323 Indig History of the Southwest Credits Cat dscrp NAIS 327 Indig Peoples Mass Media Deletion NAIS 330 International Indigenous Issues Deletion NAIS 335 Topics: Indigenous Studies Credits NAIS 344 NAT Amer Oral Traditions Credits Cat dscrp NAIS 355 Federal Indian Policy Title Credits Cat dscrp NAIS 360 Mesoamerican Art History Deletion NAIS 368 Native North American Art Hist Deletion NAIS 450 Nat Amer Heritage Preservation Title Credits Cat dscrp NAIS 491 Practicum Deletion NAIS 496 Senior Seminar Prereq Credits Cat dscrp NAIS 115 Native American Newsletter Deletion

Motion to approve program and courses NAIS action items, Jonathan Latta; seconded Beverly Chew;

3 | P a g e Summary: Major changes is from 3 to 4 credits; streamline curriculum; difficult to have faculty to become affiliate and teach courses if they are in 4 credit majors; on par with colleagues in AHSS; promote indigenous pedagogy.
