If you have trouble doing these, go to your teacher for extra help. Then try some of the unassigned questions. The unassigned questions may also be used for extra practise before the unit test.

THE ASSIGNED MARK (5%): Since the answers to all the questions are at the back of the textbook, the mark assigned to the assignments will be based on the quality of the work : handed in on time, complete, neat, organized, etc. Math 10C – Linear Functions

The Problem: Tom’s mother just took an apple pie out of the oven. The baking temperature of the pie was 360 o and Tom was told he could not eat any of the pie until it cooled to a room temperature of 60 o . Tom was anxious to eat the pie so he took the temperature every 7 minutes. He recorded these results after 7 minutes the temperature was 330 o , after 14 minutes it was 300 o , and so on. How long will he have to wait until he can eat the pie?

Take the next few minutes to think about this problem. Your task is not to find a numerical solution to the problem now (you will do that at the end of the unit). Your task is to put thought into what facts, skills, formulas, and procedures you will need to solve the problem.

Make a list of those concepts and skills you think you need to solve this problem.
