<p> 2017 Gingerbread Lane Competition Guidelines</p><p>Thank you for your participation in the annual Gingerbread Lane Competition at The Ballantyne! Email entry form to [email protected] by Tuesday, November 28 th in order to participate. For any questions, please call the concierge desk at 704 248 4055. Rules for Entry 1. Entrants can only enter in one category (Professional, Amateur or Child) and there is no entry fee. 2. Culinary Students will be judged under the Professional category. To qualify for the Amateur category, entrants must not be a professional baker, caterer, or professional chef in a food related capacity, nor have assistance by these individuals in the construction of the gingerbread creation. To qualify for the Child category, entrants must be 12 years and under. 3. Gingerbread creations must be built upon a sound display board with a maximum surface of 2’ x 3’ and a minimum surface of 2’ x 2’. Structures that are built on larger display boards will be disqualified and not showcased. The display board does not have to be made of edible materials. 4. All gingerbread creations must be made entirely of edible materials; i.e. no wood, cardboard, wire, lights etc. may be used or incorporated in to the structure to be eligible for judging. Please note – the gingerbread creation does not have to be a house. The creation can be any structure or design as long as it incorporates gingerbread. 5. Entrants may choose to provide a Plexiglas® surround for their gingerbread creation to safeguard it from being damaged. The Plexiglas® size must not exceed the length and width of the display board. A Plexiglas® surround is not required to enter the competition. 6. All gingerbread creations must be submitted to The Ballantyne by 6p.m. on Tuesday, December 6 with judging taking place at 4 p.m. on Wednesday December 7. Entries will be accepted starting Saturday December 3, and held in a staging area prior to public viewing. 7. All gingerbread creations must have an index card attached to indicate your name and the name of the creation. Creations left without a name attached will be disqualified. 8. Gingerbread creations in each category will be judged based on creativity, attention to detail, complexity and use of materials. The “People’s Choice” award will be based on the gingerbread creation with highest number of votes from the general public. 9. All submissions become the property of The Ballantyne Hotel & Lodge and will be on public display from Thursday, December 8 through Wednesday, December 28. All displays will be removed from public viewing on Thursday, December 29 and stored for pickup until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3. Any remaining gingerbread displays will be discarded after this date. 10. The competition will be judged by The Ballantyne Hotel & Lodge Culinary Team. Prizes for Winners Ribbons will be placed on winning displays the day they are judged, and winners will be contacted by the hotel to award the prizes. The “People’s Choice” winner will be announced after the new year, when all votes are counted. Winners of all three categories will be announced on Facebook® and Twitter® as well as via email.</p><p>First, Second and Third place prizes will be awarded in each category as well as a People’s Choice Award. Prizes will be sent to winners by mid-December.  1 st Place Professional winner will receive: $500 Gift Card Complimentary one-night stay in the Executive Suite with breakfast in bed for two  1 st Place Amateur winner will receive: Complimentary one-night stay in the Executive Suite plus dinner for two at Gallery Restaurant  2 nd Place Professional and 2 nd Place Amateur winners will receive: $200 The Ballantyne gift card  3 rd Place Professional and 3 rd Place Amateur winners will receive: Dinner for two at Gallery Restaurant  1 st Place Child winners will receive: 2 hour Culinary Class led by our Pastry Chef, Noelle Gogg, and a Personalized Chef’s Jacket (Jacket will be ordered and embroidered once the size is determined)  2 nd Place Child winner will receive: A specialty Holiday Brunch for four people (Valid for Easter, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas)  3 rd Place Child winner will receive: Complimentary Afternoon Tea for four at The Ballantyne Hotel  People’s Choice winner will receive: Complimentary one-night stay in a Grand Deluxe guest room with breakfast in bed for two</p>
