Go to www.toledopowersquadron.org for a link to doing a virtual check of your boat Then contact one of these examiners: Pat Meyer, chairman Richard Alleshouse, Annette Bell, Bruce Emerson, Ed Fairchild, Paul Howey, Audie Jaqua, Haynes Lee, Tom Parker, Mike Schabeck, Hal Joe Shafer, and Dan Strohmeier 40 checks completed as of 5/6/08 Page 5 THE BREEZE COMMANDER’S COMMENTS Wayne Osborn, AP 419-290-5535 email: [email protected] -While “Commander” is an imposing title, my main job is to be your representative. If any of you (from new members to lifers, from Boat Smart grads to Senior Navigators) have any questions, concerns, ideas, sugges- tions and even complaints, please let me know . It’s your squadron. Please, no grumbling in the back of the room! Call me anytime at 419-290-5535. Also, I think that “Executive Committee” meetings might better be called “Steering Committee” meetings. They’re where we get the business done, schedules set, meetings planned, positions filled, money spent. They can be very informative and insightful . Executive committee meetings are open to all members; no reservations needed. They are the last Tuesday of every month at 1930 sharp. Almost always at TYC. -May is a special month in many ways, but it is also “dues renewal month” (unless you are a newer member on anniversary billing). If you’ve already sent in your dues, thank you!! Your dues allow you to continue to en- joy the camaraderie of other members, attend our dinner meetings, take advanced boating classes, join in cruises and rendezvous, and bring many other personal benefits. But more than that, dues allow us to continue improv- ing local boating skills; to continue our mission of increasing boating safety and enjoyment by way of educa- tion. USPS has the most comprehensive educational program of any organization, short of the Navy! You can be proud that you support it. Enjoy your membership! Take the time; treat yourself and join in our events this year. If you haven’t renewed yet, please do it now . -Talking about treating yourself, try to get to the June meeting at Indian Hill Boat Club. It’s one of my favorite meetings. Sit on the club patio with friends, good food and a cold one. Watch the river, the boats and the wild- life. And it gets pretty wild on the patio after awhile, too. We are bringing in special chefs James “Pierre” Ba- logh and Greg “Garçon” Gerwin who will feature their signature dish, “dogs and burgers ala charcoal”. All this for only 7 bucks! -You can boat in to the Glass City Marina any day during National Safe Boating Week. You’ll find squadron activities each day. Sign up your first mate and crew for the very popular “Skipper Saver” seminar on Wednes- day, May 21. Spread the word. This is an outstanding seminar that shows what to do if something happens to the skipper. Our weekend rendezvous starts that Friday, and the final session of our Boat Smart class will end that Saturday, May 24th. Boat on down, then say hello to some of the graduates. It’s a great chance to introduce new people to the squadron. We could use help all week with these activities. Please check out page 3 and www.toledopowersquadron.org - Hearty congratulations to Marion Squadron celebrating the occasion of their 50 th anniversary at their regular monthly meeting on May 22.
