You may also need to refer to:  websites such as www.lonelyplanet.com.au or typing phrases such as ‘world map’ or ‘world destinations’ into your favourite search engine  an excellent world atlas such as Longman  encyclopaedias  travellers’ guidebooks, eg Lonely Planet guides  travel brochures.</p><p>You can download a blank map of the world from the module home page. You may wish to make several copies of the map for adding your notes.</p><p>Mark your world map:</p><p> Label the following six continents (the seventh continent, Antarctica, is not included on the map); show the boundaries between them if applicable: Australia, Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America.</p><p> Mark in and name the parallels of latitude: o Equator (0º) o Tropic of Capricorn (23.5Sº) o Tropic of Cancer (23.5Nº) o Arctic Circle (66.5Nº). (Note: You cannot indicate the Antarctic Circle, as the map doesn’t extend far enough south.)</p><p> Mark in and name the meridians of longitude: o International Date Line (0º) o Greenwich Meridian (180º).</p><p>Notice that the International Date Line leaves the meridian in a number of places. This is because we use the Date Line to determine the beginning and ending of each day. Countries need to be entirely on one or other side of the Date Line. If it ran through the middle of a country, that country would always be two days at once. Imagine the confusion!</p><p> Name the following seven oceans, noting that the Equator divides those bodies of water where ‘north’ and ‘south’ is specified: South Pacific, North Pacific, South Atlantic, North Atlantic, Indian, Arctic, Southern.</p><p> Clearly indicate the location of (use arrows if necessary) and name the following major seas: o Mediterranean Sea o Black Sea o Baltic Sea o North Sea o Persian Gulf o Red Sea o Arabian Sea o Sea of Japan o Tasman Sea o Caribbean Sea o Gulf of Mexico.</p><p>© NSW TAFE Online Worksheet 7027Z Tourism destination information</p><p> As you locate the major seas in your atlas, take note of important tourist destination countries which have coastlines on specific seas.</p><p>© NSW TAFE Online</p>
