<p> THE ALUMNI COUNCIL AWARD FOR SERVICE TO PRINCETON</p><p>November 2011</p><p>Dear Member of the Princeton University Community:</p><p>In 1972 the Alumni Council established The Alumni Council Award for Service to Princeton to recognize and to show appreciation for selfless service to the University. We are asking you to nominate one or more individuals for this award. We hope you will confer with your colleagues and classmates to suggest candidates.</p><p>Although eligibility for the award is purposely broad, we especially seek to honor members of our Princeton family whose service has not already been widely recognized, either by other awards or by selection for high office. </p><p>In seeking out those who might not be widely known, we ask you, the nominator, to provide detailed information as to how the nominee has served Princeton. If nominating a member of the University staff, please provide information about the nominee’s service outside the purview of his/her professional responsibilities. The selection committee bases its decisions primarily on the material submitted by the nominator(s). The most successful presentations have included a letter with stories or anecdotes about the nominee along with a history of the candidate’s volunteer contributions to Princeton. We encourage you to provide this information using the attached form. After filling it out, please return it to Jean M. This change has permitted us to designate an award for a member of the 20 youngest alumni classes (or an individual who falls in that age group). We particularly encourage nominations in this category!</p><p>-2-</p><p>Since the inception of the award, many members of the Princeton family (including alumni, faculty, staff, and parents) have been honored. We have enclosed a list of previous honorees. Also attached are guidelines concerning the award and the selection process.</p><p>The Award for Service to Princeton has become one of the most important awards given by the Alumni Council. It deserves considerable thought and attention. We are enthusiastic about our mission and look forward to hearing from you soon—no later than December 14, 2011.
