<p> Robert Jacob Pearce RESUME for Unisa Information Department of Information Science 2010 Alumnus Award</p><p>He has the following qualifications:</p><p>Matric 1974-Eersterust High School</p><p>Lower Diploma Library Science (S.A. Institute for Librarianship and Information Science-1983)</p><p>Qualifications obtained from the University of South Africa (UNISA): </p><p>-Bachelor of Library Science (1986); -Honours Bachelor of Library Science (1988); -Master of Library Science (1996) He completed the Masters degree in Librarianship at Unisa at the end of 1996 with a dissertation entitled: "An assessment of the library and information needs and expectations of University of Venda academic staff.</p><p>19 January 2004 Passed examinations during October/November 2003 and the Certificate in Client Service Excellence from Unisa's Industrial Psychology Department was awarded to him. This Certificate Course consists of the following four Subjects/ Modules-Customer Care and Service Philosophy; Quality in a Customer Driven Culture; Responsiveness; Developing a Customer Driven Culture.</p><p>During April 2009 he was appointed Director: Library and Information Services at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth. Staff compliment: 105; Branches 6 (George, PE -5); Duties: Strategic Leadership, Financial Planning, Staff Development, and Community Development.</p><p>Previously he was:</p><p>-Public Librarian at the City Council of Pretoria (1975-1983)</p><p>-Subject and Information Librarian, Unisa Library (1983-1991)</p><p>-Senior Librarian at the University of Venda Library (1991-1993)</p><p>Campus Librarian at Vista University Library (1993-1998)</p><p>-Director of the Vaal Triangle Technikon Library (1999-Jan 2000)</p><p>-Director of Customer Services at Unisa since 2000 till March 2009 . At Unisa he was also responsible for the Personal Librarians, Archives, Audiovisual and managing all the Unisa Library's Remote Branches in Durban, Polokwane, Parow (Cape), East London, Florida, Ethiopia (Akaki Campus) and Johannesburg;</p><p>Merger: Since the start of the Merger with the Technikon South Africa and the Vista University's Distance Education Campus (Vudec), he was UNISA's Representative for Libraries. He served on the University's Senate and Tuition Committee in the past and am presently serving on the Library's Strategic Leadership Managament Team, Learner Support Committee, the Senate Library Committee and the Publications Committee;</p><p>Nationally, he is a Member of the Library Association of South Africa (Liasa) and am on the Board of the Scientific Journal. Thus far I have peer-reviewed four articles and on Book;</p><p>At Unisa, he also served on the Library and Information Science's Mousaion Journal and have peer-reviewed six articles;</p><p>He was an External Examiner.
