<p> SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 28</p><p>In Memory of Zelma D. Meek</p><p>WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Zelma D. Meek, who died recently at the age of 79; and</p><p>WHEREAS, Zelma Meek was born January 26, 1925, in</p><p>Marshall, Texas; she attended public schools in Marshall and graduated from Central High School in Louisville, Kentucky; she earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Wiley </p><p>College; in 1969, she earned a master's degree in education from</p><p>Prairie View A&M University; and</p><p>WHEREAS, A longtime educator, Zelma taught four different grade levels at the two-room Mound Elementary School in Marshall from 1952 to 1954; after relocating to Houston in 1956, she taught special education at B. C. Elmore Senior High School, and she worked as a teacher and vocational adjustment coordinator in the North Forest Independent School District; and</p><p>WHEREAS, Zelma joined the Houston Independent School </p><p>District in 1970 and worked at the Harper Basic Skills Center before joining Reagan High School as a special education teacher; she retired from the district in 1986; and</p><p>Page - 1 - S.R. No. 28 WHEREAS, Zelma was a devout Christian who practiced her faith in her daily life; she was a member of the Fifth Ward </p><p>Baptist Church in Houston, where she worked with Uplift and the </p><p>Senior Mission; and</p><p>Page -2 - S.R. No. 28</p><p>WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity, she gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and</p><p>WHEREAS, Zelma Meek lived her life to the fullest, and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it</p><p>RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,</p><p>79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Zelma D. Meek: her brother, Omri R. Meek, </p><p>Jr.; her sisters, Raythalia Hunt, Eureka Upchurch, Doris Rowl, </p><p>Yedobaty Brock, Gwendolyn Davis, and Clara L. Meek; and her many other beloved relatives; and, be it further</p><p>RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas </p><p>Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Zelma D.
