We note that you have asked for a copy of your prescription so that you might have it fabricated elsewhere. </p><p>That decision is yours to make and we respect that. However there is a very important aspect about your particular prescription that you need to be aware of – it incorporates a clinical feature called ‘yoked prism’.</p><p>Yoked prism glasses are prescribed by optometrists skilled in neuro-optometry. They alter a patient's perception of visual space and increase the patient's ability to transfer their weight to achieve better posture and balance. In your case they are an essential part of the prescription – if the spectacle lenses are made without yoked prism you will receive little or no benefit from wearing the spectacles. </p><p>The fabrication of yoked prism is a specialised skill and is offered by a relatively few optical laboratories. Optometry Australia has made the following statement about yoked prism:</p><p>Yoked prism is a very difficult prescription to make and an even more difficult prescription to accurately dispense. The Association strongly encourages patients to find an optometrist who is skilled in both prescribing and dispensing 'yoked prism' and to stick with that optometrist for both functions. To do otherwise will almost certainly result in your dissatisfaction with the outcome.
