Applied Fluid Mechanics, 6th edition, 2006 By: Robert L. Mott ISBN 0-13-114680-7 Published by: Pearson Prentice Hall

Errata

The following errors in this book have been discovered. We deeply regret their occurrence and welcome hearing about others that users may find. Some errors listed here were discovered soon after the initial printing and were corrected in subsequent printings. It is not possible to determine which corrections were made for any particular printing. If your book is a later printing, some of these items may have already been changed. The number of the printing of the book can be found on the copyright page just above the ISBN in the lower right corner. In the series of numbers beginning with 10, the last digit is the number of the printing. For example, the 5th printing has a series reading: 10 9 8 7 6 5. This indicates the 5th printing. Some changes to later printings were purely appearance-related and they are not listed here.

Pearson Prentice Hall, Publisher Robert L. Mott, Author

Corrections submitted July 25, 2005: Page Change 83 In the fourth line from the bottom: Add “is” after “F = pA”. 454 In Table 14.2 in the graphic for a rectangular channel: The dimension arrows should be drawn to indicate the full top width of the channel. 466 In Table 14.5: Add the dimension label “L” to the fourth image down at the right of the table that shows the flow over a ramp in a trapezoidal open channel as part of a long- throated flume. The dimension should look similar to that shown in the second figure for the rectangular open channel, indicating the length of the flat part of the ramp at the throat. 599 In Table E.3: The symbol for Pressure in the headings for columns 3 and 7 should be a lower case p, not upper case.

Corrections submitted April 28, 2006: Page Change 243 In Problem 8.65E: Change 1-m to 1-mile

290 In Figure 10.9: Change the label for the smaller diameter on the right from D1 to D2. 310 Change the flow equation number from (10-10) to (10-11). 616 Answer to Problem 2.63: Change to 8.2310-3. 620 Answer to Problem 11.39: Change the number 3.47 to 3.91. 621 In Answer to Problem 16.5: For the second value of the reaction force, change the subscript from x to y. In Answer to Problem 16.7: For the second value of the reaction force, change the subscript from x to y. Correction submitted May 3, 2007: Page Change

481 In the first equation for v1: Add a square root sign in the formula to include all terms except the coefficient C. The corrected equation should be identical to Equation (15-6) at the bottom of page 479. Similarly, for the part of the equation showing the data entered, add the square root sign after the number “0.984”.
