<p> St. Finn Barr Catholic School Educating Young, Diverse Minds for the Future Field Trip Chaperone/School Volunteer Procedures 2017-2018</p><p>Because parent volunteering is a fundamental part of our school functioning, all parents are required to complete the Recognize, Report, and Prevent Child Abuse Training through the Shield The Vulnerable website at least once every three years. FACTS: 1.) All chaperones/volunteers must be over the age of 21 (Drivers must be 25) and must complete the Protect Children Course online. 2.) All overnight chaperones must clear a Live Scan fingerprinting ($70, good forever) 3.) Live scan registrations must be initiated by first registering through the Shield the Vulnerable Website. 4.) For driving field trips, all drivers must submit a copy of a valid driver’s license and insurance to the school office one week before the trip. </p><p>How to complete the Protect Children Course: -Go to: http://www.shieldthevulnerable.org -Click on: Adults Click here (on the right side) -Click on: First Time Sign Up/Adult Sign Up -Under “Your Organization” choose Catholic Diocese -Under “Select Catholic Diocese” choose San Francisco Archdiocese then click enter - Identify yourself as a “volunteer” (for the live scan) ***Do not identify yourself as “parent” if you intend to chaperone or volunteer –“parent” status will not trigger the necessary Live Scan. -You will then be placed in the training course: Protect Children - The course will take approximately 45 minutes, and it is available in English and Spanish. -Finally, print out the page that says you have completed the program. - Submit your certificate of completion to the school office. -Cost for taking the course is $5.00.</p><p>- For the Live Scan: Take the form generated by the registration to one of the locations listed on the Shield the Vulnerable website. If you are confirmed for a field trip or a new parent to the school, the school will reimburse you for 50% of the cost of the Live Scan. $5.00 will also be deducted from the reimbursement to cover the course fee. The typical cost in its entirety is $70. Bring a copy of the live scan form and your receipt to the school office.</p><p>*** If you anticipate chaperoning or volunteering at school events at all this year, it is a great idea to complete this program now.
