I hope that you had a fantastic summer and I am looking forward to getting to know you this school year! The following is a list of expectations, grading policies, materials, and procedures that are necessary for the school year. Please make sure to read the material so that you know what is expected of you. This will also be posted on my website for future reference.

When it comes to math I know each of you have your own abilities, likes, and dislikes. I will do my best to provide you an individual experience during the year. I expect you to work hard and set goals for yourself. I have high expectations for you this school year and I hope that you can reach and exceed these expectations.

Curriculum:

Essentials of Geometry Similarity

Reasoning and Proof Right Triangles and Trigonometry

Parallel and Perpendicular Lines Quadrilaterals, Properties of Circles

Congruent Triangles Measuring Length and Area

Relationships within Triangles Surface Area and Volume

Class Expectations:

Be in class daily with all necessary materials Get to class on time Be respectful of ALL staff and students Work is done in PENCIL! NO pens or erasable pens Show ALL work (no work = no credit)

Grading Policy:

Tests: will be given at the end of each chapter points: 60 and up

Quizzes: will be given about once a week and will focus on roughly two-three sections of a chapter at a time points: 20-30

1 Homework: 30-40 min. almost every night and checked the following morning points: 3-2-1 system (students will receive 3,2, or 1 points based on effort done on each assignment and the total at the end of each marking period will create their homework grade)

Email/call will go home if incomplete homework becomes a problem copying or allowing someone to copy your work is NOT allowed and is considered cheating students will (at times) be extending the concepts learned in class, some of the most important learning will occur when students work on homework. Students are encouraged to work with other students in the class. It is expected that there will be some struggles with particular concepts throughout the year—if you are struggling for more than 10 minutes on a problem, do as much as you can and be ready to ask for “HELP” during the next class

Class Participation: participating in class is expected as much as possible!

Miscellaneous: projects, review packets, challenge worksheets, etc. will be given out occasionally and a point value will be assigned. Students will be given multiple days to complete these type of assignments

Midterm/Final: there will be a midterm and final exam, whose cumulative average will equal a 5th marking period grade. The midterm exam covers the first semester and will be given at the end of the second marking period. The final exam covers the second semester and will be given at the end of the fourth marking period. The midterm and the final will count toward an exam grade for the year. The exam grades are averaged with the four-quarter grades as a "fifth marking period" toward the course grade.

Math Supplies: (bring every day)

Assignment book - given out in homeroom the first day of school Pencils - NO PENS, not even erasable ones Notebook or binder (whichever is easier for you – for notes/handouts) Textbook – can sign one out or online version Index cards and box Two-pocket folder - returned assessments and handouts will be stored Calculator – there is a class set however, they are useful and will be used in high school (TI-84 graphing calculator) Graphing calculators are highly recommended for this course and future courses.
