<p> The Master Reading Teacher Certification Program</p><p>The Master Reading Teacher (MRT) certification program has no special admission criteria other than admission to the graduate program of Texas A&M University in the College of Education and Human Development. The MRT is a State of Texas teaching certification that requires specific coursework and the successful completion of an TExES examination given by the State. The coursework is offered through the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Culture.</p><p>The course requirements for the MRT are as follows:</p><p>RDNG 674 Developmental Reading in the Elementary School. Methods and materials of reading instruction in the elementary grades; past, present, and emerging programs; organization of developmental, corrective and speed-reading programs in high school and college. This is a prerequisite to the remaining courses.</p><p>RDNG 604 Reading Diagnosis. Appraisal and diagnosis of reading problems; practicum in administration and interpretation of individual reading inventories. This is a prerequisite to RDNG 642 below, and is to be taken the subsequent semester.</p><p>RDNG 642 Clinic Teaching in Reading. Practicum in recognition, diagnosis, remediation and corrective procedures of reading-study problems; demonstration and laboratory analysis of physiological and psychological factors relates to reading disabilities. RDNG 604 and RDNG 642 are offered in consecutive semesters, usually Summer I and II, for a sustained experience with a child.</p><p>RDNG 616 Organization and Supervision of Reading Programs. Organization of school reading programs; role of reading supervisor in program implementation, staff development, program evaluation.
