<p> 1 South Carolina General Assembly 2 115th Session, 2003-2004 3 4 S. 483 5 6 STATUS INFORMATION 7 8 Senate Resolution 9 Sponsors: Senator Peeler 10 Document Path: l:\council\bills\nbd\11401ac03.doc 11 12 Introduced in the Senate on March 13, 2003 13 Adopted by the Senate on March 13, 2003 14 15 Summary: Gaffney High School "Indians" Boys Varsity Basketball Team 16 17 18 HISTORY OF LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS 19 20 Date Body Action Description with journal page number 21 3/13/2003 Senate Introduced and adopted SJ-3 22 23 24 VERSIONS OF THIS BILL 25 26 3/13/2003 27 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A SENATE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO CONGRATULATE THE GAFFNEY HIGH SCHOOL 12 BOYS’ BASKETBALL TEAM AND THEIR COACHES, MARK 13 HUFF AND MARK IRETON, ON THEIR EXTRAORDINARY 14 DEDICATION, DETERMINATION, AND HARD WORK 15 THROUGHOUT THE 2002-2003 SEASON AND ON 16 CAPTURING THE CLASS AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP 17 TITLE ON FRIDAY, MARCH 7, 2003. 18 19 Whereas, the game of basketball affords young people the 20 opportunity to learn the importance of dedication and teamwork 21 while developing amazing athletic talents; and 22 23 Whereas, becoming a champion in this sport requires every 24 member of the team and coaching staff to have special leadership 25 skills and physical prowess, as well as a finely honed ability to 26 communicate effectively on the court; and 27 28 Whereas, using these talents, in concert with pure drive, 29 determination, and countless hours of hard work, the members of 30 the Boys’ Basketball Team of Gaffney High School reigned 31 victorious game after game defeating every opponent and 32 becoming one of the best teams in the history of the South 33 Carolina High School League; and 34 35 Whereas, with an outstanding performance from a top notch team 36 and the superb coaching of Head Coach Mark Huff and Assistant 37 Coach Mark Ireton, the Gaffney High School Boys’ Basketball 38 Team beat Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School to become the 39 Class AAAA Upper State Champions and entered the state 40 playoffs with a 23-0 record, being the first undefeated season of 41 record and the first trip to the playoffs for Gaffney High School 42 since 1984; and </p><p>1 [483] 1 1 2 Whereas, the team continued its winning streak throughout the 3 playoffs, finishing the season with a perfect 28-0 record, and 4 emerged victorious as the Class AAAA State Champion by 5 defeating Dutch Fork High School on Friday, March 7, 2003, by a 6 score of 79-66; and 7 8 Whereas, with this unprecedented season and outstanding victory, 9 the 2002-2003 Gaffney High School Boys’ Basketball Team 10 became the first team in Gaffney since 1949 to be named State 11 Champions; and 12 13 Whereas, it is with great pride and immense pleasure that we 14 recognize the physical and mental abilities of these young South 15 Carolinians and hope that they will use those skills both on and off 16 the basketball court. Now, therefore, 17 18 Be it resolved by the Senate: 19 20 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, 21 extend their congratulations to the Gaffney High School Boys’ 22 Basketball Team and their coaches, Mark Huff and Mark Ireton, 23 on their extraordinary dedication, determination, and hard work 24 throughout the 2002-2003 season and on capturing the Class 25 AAAA State Championship Title on Friday, March 7, 2003. 26 27 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 28 the members of the Gaffney High School Boys’ Basketball Team 29 and Coach Mark Huff. 30 ----XX---- 31</p><p>1 [483] 2</p>
