Thomas Jefferson High School Syllabus for Spanish III Sr. Takalo--Room C12 [email protected]

CLASS STANDARDS AND EXPECTATIONS

1. Course description. Students will continue their study of Spanish by focusing on listening, speaking, writing, and reading of the target language. The course uses the text Avancemos as well as other various textbooks and grammar guides.

2. Participate in class. Knowing Spanish is very important in today’s society. You have an excellent opportunity to improve on it this year. Try to say as much as possible in Spanish--this helps! Languages need to be spoken to be learned.

3. Come to class prepared. This means having materials--everyday. There will be a classroom set of textbooks, but you should have your Chromebook, writing utensil, paper, and a good attitude. You are responsible for bringing these items. Taking time to get these things will result in a tardy. Do all necessary things BEFORE class begins.

4. Absences. Please refer to the student handbook for policies. You will have two days for every absence to make up the work. I will not chase you down to get the work, this is your grade. Daily work is what separates “A” students from “B” and “C” students.

5. Classroom behavior. --Pórtense bien. This includes sitting up, eye contact with teacher, and raising hands if you have something to say. Do not interrupt, distract, or disrupt my teaching. Respect others. You should demand respect from me, and I demand respect from you. No swearing allowed (handbook). --Cellphones. You will get a warning. After that, I may take them for the period. After that, they go to administration. I will let you know when they are allowed. Basically, never. --Prepárense para hablar y aprender. Refer to student handbook about drink and food; in my room neither of these are allowed. All will be confiscated. --Takalo’s tips: Take notes, review at night, ask questions.

6. Notas. We have a standard, all-school grading scale. I use 80(65-15)-12-8. Late work will not receive full credit.

Languages can be tough; you will need to do work. Having a positive attitude is half the battle (sorry, only half). Try, show effort. If you do not want to learn Spanish, why are you here? I will be here before and after school for any help or questions!
