<p> Westfield South Middle Mr. Baillargeon Guitar Class Syllabus http://baillargeonmusic.wikispaces.com/ Introduction Welcome to Guitar Class and the South Middle School music department Over the next twelve weeks you will develop skills as a musician and guitar player that will last a lifetime. At the end this course you will be able to read music, accompany yourself and others using a variety chords and patterns, and have the skills necessary to continue developing your guitar technique.</p><p>Classroom Rules  Treat others as you would like to be treated Disrespectful behavior towards persons, music, or equipment will not be tolerated</p><p> Students must be in their assigned position/seat with their folder, pencil, music, and instrument</p><p> Always have your pencil at every rehearsal for score marking</p><p> Gum, food, candy, and drink cannot be allowed in the music room for they may be harmful to instruments, the room, and yourself.</p><p> Talking is prohibited during rehearsal time When the cutoff occurs, stop playing/singing, and wait for the next direction</p><p> Non-music books and personal items are not to be stored in the music room. Please use your locker. </p><p> Leave the music room as you found it. Students are responsible for keeping the room clean.</p><p> Students are responsible for any music assigned to them.</p><p>Week 1-2 Review of the basic fundamentals of music. Guitar anatomy and history, theory and rhythm, strumming and finger picking, strings and tuning, C chord and G chord (G, B, & E strings only), worksheets, workbook, and practice log Weeks 3-4 Melodies on the first 3 strings. reading chord symbols, add chords D & A, songs, worksheets, workbook, and practice log</p><p>Weeks 5-6 Melodies on the 3 bass strings, solos, songs added to song folder, new chord symbols and review of old symbols, add chords f & C7, worksheets, workbook, and practice log Weeks 7-8 Scales- intervals, moveable scales, finger patterns, major, blues and chromatic.</p><p>Weeks 9-10 Chords, strumming, chord progressions and finger-picking</p><p>Weeks 11-12 Ensembles and projects.</p><p>Styles of Music for listening: Classical, Folk, Country/Southern, Blues, Jazz, Classic Rock, World Music, & Pop.</p><p>Grading: 33.3%- Homework, Worksheets, and Listening Assignments, 33.3%-Quizzes and Tests (including midterm and final), 33.3%-Playing performances</p><p>Expectations All students are expected to follow all classroom rules and procedures Inability to follow rules and procedures will result in disciplinary action, i.e. verbal warning, detention, or referral to the office Yo u w i l l a l s o b e r es p o n s i bl e f o r l os t, d a m ag ed , o r s t o l e n m u s ic a n d i n s t r u me n ts Check out the website: http://baillargeonmusic.wikispaces.com/</p>
