Abstain: Sweitzer. </p><p>An ASUCD Senate Resolution to support California Assembly Bill 1285 (AB 1285) as proposed by Assemblymember Paul Fong.</p><p>WHEREAS, existing provisions provide that 2% of first-time Cal Grant B recipients are eligible for payments for tuition or student fees; and,</p><p>WHEREAS, AB 1285 eliminates the 2% cap on the number of Cal Grant B Entitlement and Competitive awards that cover the first year of tuition and fees; and,</p><p>WHEREAS, AB 1285 ensures that Cal Grant B funding never exceeds the student's calculated financial need.</p><p>THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED THAT, the Associated Students, University of California, Davis (ASUCD) is in favor of giving Cal Grant B students full financial assistance for four years, thereby Senate Resolution #33 Page 2 expanding their access to higher education and allowing low income students to attend the college of their choice; and,</p><p>THEREFORE LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, the ASUCD supports the speedy passage of AB 1285; and,</p><p>THEREFORE LET IT BE FINALLY RESOLVED THAT, copies of this resolution shall be sent to Governor Jerry Brown; California State Senate President Pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg; California State Senate Majority Leader, Ellen Corbett; Speaker of the Assembly, John Pérez; California State Assemblymember, Paul Fong; the UC Davis Chancellor, Linda Katehi; the UC Berkeley Chancellor, Robert Birgeneau; the UC Irvine Chancellor, Michael Drake; the UC Los Angeles Chancellor, Gene Block; the UC Santa Barbara Chancellor, Henry Yang; the UC Riverside (Intermittent) Chancellor, Jane C.
