The novel can be found at local libraries, area book stores, or borrowed through Einstein’s English Department( room 121) during lunch or after school from 2:10-2:30 , June 2-12. Read carefully. Complete the following two assignments by Friday August 29, 2014. Responses must be typed.</p><p>Assignment 1: Vocabulary</p><p>Good readers develop an extensive vocabulary and an ability to determine the meaning of words in context. As you read, find fifteen vocabulary words you do not know. Copy the sentence and the page number from the text. Write the correct dictionary definition on your paper.</p><p> Example: “The voyage of the ship is a zigzag line of a hundred tacks.” (5)</p><p> o Tack: the heading of the ship of a sailing vessel with reference to the wind direction; one of the series of straight runs that make up the zigzag course of a ship sailing into the wind.</p><p>Assignment 2: Reader’s Response</p><p>Good readers are able to draw conclusions about what they read and defend their ideas with details from the text. Below are two questions that ask you to look at the novel as a whole and draw specific conclusions about the text. Answer each question fully and completely in two separate paragraphs. Be sure to use specific examples from the text to defend your ideas.</p><p> Question 1: Paragraph 1</p><p> o “A man can be destroyed but not defeated,” says the old man after the first shark attack.
