EXAMPLE CHART:

Chap Quote Tweet Hashtag 1 In his first session, Holden thinks the No one wants to hear about my boring, #Davidcopperfieldcrap doctor will want to know “what [his] crappy childhood, especially not me… lousy childhood was like…and all that and I lived it. David Copperfield kind of crap,” but he claims he doesn’t “feel like going into it” (Salinger 1). 1 Holden decides to describe “this I guess I better tell him something. I’m #Madmandiary madman stuff that happened to [him] such a mess. I really kind of lost it last around last Christmas just before [he] December. got run-down and had to come out here and take it easy” (Salinger 1).

Analysis: Holden is not ready or willing to share with the listener. He seems to be trivializing and deflecting the events of his childhood as a way to avoid getting too personal. He belittles his own life to “crap” that he’s too bored to discuss. This may indicate his lack of trust in the listener. At the same time, he does start to explain what happened to him in December, just before he was sent to this facility. He’s aware that something is wrong because he calls it “madman stuff.” Name Pd Catcher Tweet Journal Expected time: 40 min reading, marking quotes with sticky notes as you read. 15-20 minutes filling in Tweet Journal.
