<p> MINUTES April 26, 2004 12:40 - 2:00 P.M. LSU Union Council Room ADMISSIONS, STANDARDS, & HONORS COMMITTEE MEETING</p><p>1. Minutes from the April 12, 2004 meeting were approved as distributed.</p><p>2. A proposal from Basic Sciences to change the admission standards for majors in the Department of Biological Sciences was introduced. Dr. Steve Hand, Chair of Biological Sciences, and Dr. Richard Bruch, Associate Chair of Biological Sciences, presented the proposal and answered questions from ASH. After further discussion, Richard Bengston, seconded by Andrew Christie, made the motion to accept the proposed catalog admission standards with minor modification to the wording. A vote was taken and the motion passed unanimously.</p><p>3. Discussion on the issue of developing a policy regarding multiple concentrations within a given major continued. Karen Denby and Robert Doolos presented a summary of feed back from the colleges on campus. After further discussion, Robert Perlis agreed to prepare a draft a statement to Academic Affairs with recommendations from ASH regarding concentrations in undergraduate degree programs. ASH will review these issues at a future date.</p><p>4. Karen Denby introduced a draft policy statement to replace the present statement in the catalog regarding audited courses. Following some discussion, Robert Perlis requested that this issue be tabled until the next ASH meeting to enable further information to be obtained.</p><p>5. Neil Kestner presented a draft statement regarding the Louisiana Legislative bid to allow agricultural sciences to substitute for basic science requirements for the TOPS program. After a brief discussion, ASH approved with minor modifications, the draft statement arguing against allowing agricultural science courses to substitute for the basic science requirements of TOPS.</p><p>6. Kathy Thompson introduced a draft policy statement to replace the present statement in the catalog regarding ‘make-up’ exams. After a brief discussion, ASH approved the statement.</p><p>7.
