FAQ for Aid Administrators College Bound Scholarship

FAQ for Aid Administrators – College Bound Scholarship Applies to the 12-13 year. Policies are being reviewed, and may change for 13-14.

Does the CBS Cruncher check for all CBS eligibility criteria?

No. The CBS Cruncher indicates whether the student has met the CBS application requirements, high school graduation requirements, and usage limits such as the 12 QER limit and the 1-year college enrollment window. The Cruncher is NOT checking for other eligibility criteria, such as whether the student is a WA resident, meets the 65% MFI income cutoff, SAP, or whether the student has room in their financial aid package. Just as for SNG, those pieces are determined by the campus. Should I prioritize my CBS students to receive SNG funds?

No. CBS students should be processed in the same order, using the same methods, as all other financial aid applicants. If the CBS student would have otherwise received SNG, award it. If you are out of SNG funds, award the student fully with CBS. If a student misses the priority deadline, and I am out of SNG funds, can I still award the student CBS?

Yes. CBS is an entitlement program, therefore, the student is entitled to receive their full CBS award even if there are no SNG funds left at your campus. Should I prioritize late-filing CBS students for packaging?

No. Late-filing CBS students should be processed in the same order as any other financial aid applicant. CBS students do not have priority. Can I retroactively award CBS for late filers?

Yes. Following SNG policy, you can retroactively award CBS at the enrollment level in which the student completed the term. Must I repackage students who received their entire award with CBS funds, if more SNG dollars become available?

If you accept additional SNG dollars, you can, but are not required to, replace previously awarded CBS funds with SNG.

Can I package CBS for summer term?

Yes, excluding the first summer term of the 2012-2013 year. If your campus awards SNG for summer term, award the student with SNG funds if available, and fill in with CBS up to the maximum award. If your campus does not award SNG for summer term, the student is eligible for the maximum CBS award for the term, and would be fully funded by CBS. Can I request SNG and CBS funds simultaneously?

Yes. The WSAC Portal has been modified to accommodate payment requests for both programs on the same screen. You can request funds for one or both programs. Does CBS count as a form of self-help?

Yes. CBS can count as an aid program that counts towards the self help requirement for the State Need Grant Program. Does my campus need a separate award code for the book allowance?

No. The book allowance is built into the yearly award amount. Campuses do not need to issue a book voucher or track the book allowance separately.
