<p>English Department Lecturer Travel Grant – Criteria, Application Guidelines and Application Form</p><p>In order to support Lecturers in their development as educators and in order to enhance excellent teaching at San Francisco State University, the English Department and Composition Program will offer travel grants to Lecturers in AY 2017-2018 as follows:</p><p> $500 to award among applicants in Fall semester, 2017</p><p> $500 to award among applicants in Spring semester, 2018</p><p>We hope that these funds will help offset registration and/or travel costs as Lecturers seek out quality professional development opportunities that will positively impact their teaching in the English Department at SFSU. </p><p>Application Deadlines for 2017-2018</p><p>Fall Deadline: November 10, 2017</p><p>Spring Deadline: March 1, 2018</p><p>Award Criteria</p><p>The goal of this travel award program is to make funding opportunities available to Lecturers across the department with diverse interests and teaching experience. The primary criteria for selection will be based on:</p><p> the likelihood that the travel will positively impact teaching effectiveness in the English Department at San Francisco State University. </p><p>Other criteria taken into consideration include </p><p> clear articulation of the applicant’s professional goals for attending the conference</p><p> clear explanation of how funds will be used</p><p> clear explanation how the applicant awardee will share what s/he learned after the conference</p><p>Note that preference will be given to applicants who are scheduled to present at a conference. Faculty may receive only one grant per academic year. </p><p>1 Application Process</p><p>To apply, please submit an application form, the conference schedule or link to the conference website, and (if relevant) a copy of a conference abstract, to the Faculty Support and Mentoring Committee, attn. Co-Chairs Lyn Motai or Martha Rusk ([email protected] or [email protected]). The FSMC is charged with reviewing and selecting awardees, </p><p>Awards will be disbursed in early fall and early spring. Awardees must complete Authorization to Travel forms before travel, and should familiarize themselves with Travel procedures and paperwork on the English Department website. </p><p>Post-conference Sharing</p><p>All awardees are asked to share their conference experience with the Department community in at least one of 3 ways: (1) by submitting a short description (1 paragraph) of your conference participation to the Department newsletter; (2) by attending a Department Coffee Break, during which you can share your conference highlights in an informal networking setting; or (3) by participating in a “brown bag” discussion, open to all department faculty, to share highlights of your conference experience. </p><p>2 English Department Lecturer Travel Grant - Application Form</p><p>Name: </p><p>Email: </p><p>Courses regularly taught at SFSU:</p><p>Name of conference/workshop/event:</p><p>Please attach a copy of the conference schedule, and/or provide the link to the conference website.</p><p>Event location: Event dates:</p><p>Anticipated total expenditure to attend:</p><p>Total amount requested: Please provide a brief description (1-2 sentences) about what the funds will cover:</p><p>Explain your interest in this event and what you hope to learn from attending (75-100 words):</p><p>Summarize the ways you anticipate applying this experience/learning to your teaching in the English Department at San Francisco State University (75-100 words):</p><p>3 If you are slated to present at a conference, please attach an abstract of your paper/workshop materials.</p><p>4</p>
