<p> NZQA registered unit standard 30156 version 1 Page 1 of 3</p><p>Title Demonstrate knowledge of sign illumination systems and produce LED illuminated signs</p><p>Level 4 Credits 20</p><p>Purpose This unit standard is for people working in the signmaking industry.</p><p>People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of: light emitting diode (LED), fluorescent and neon signage lighting systems; and installation requirements for electrical components of signage systems. Electricity (Safety) Regulation 2010. </p><p>2 Definition Workplace procedures – procedures used by the organisation carrying out the work and applicable to the tasks being carried out. Examples are – standard operating procedures, site safety procedures, equipment operating procedures, codes of practice, quality management practices and standards, procedures to comply with legislative and local body requirements.</p><p>3 Assessment information All evidence requirements must be performed in accordance with workplace procedures.</p><p>Outcomes and evidence requirements</p><p>Outcome 1</p><p>Demonstrate knowledge of light emitting diode (LED), fluorescent, and neon signage lighting systems. </p><p>Evidence requirements</p><p>1.1 Types of LED systems suitable for signage are described in terms of use, advantages, and disadvantages.</p><p>Competenz Ó New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2018 SSB Code 101571 NZQA registered unit standard 30156 version 1 Page 2 of 3</p><p>Range types – back lit panels, edge lit panels, channel lettering, reverse halo lit lettering, flex LED systems, module LED systems; advantages and disadvantages – colours, durability, weatherability.</p><p>1.2 Illumination requirements, and considerations for even illumination are explained for signage lighting systems. </p><p>Range module spacing, lumens per module, lumens per square metre (lux), panel or letter depth, LED lens angles, diffusion properties of acrylic panels.</p><p>1.3 Fluorescent lighting systems used for signage are described in terms of use, advantages, and disadvantages. </p><p>1.4 Neon lighting systems used for signage are described in terms of use, advantages, and disadvantages. </p><p>Outcome 2</p><p>Demonstrate knowledge of installation requirements for electrical components of signage systems.</p><p>Evidence requirements</p><p>2.1 Hazards of working with electricity are explained and the regulatory limitations for non-registered people working with electricity are explained as outlined in Schedule 1.1 and 1.2 of the Electricity (Safety) Regulation 2010.</p><p>Range prescribed electrical work, not prescribed electrical work, extra low voltage supplies.</p><p>2.2 Weathertighness ingress protection (IP) ratings are explained for electrical components.
