The findings show that this very important construction sector is moving in the right direction.

As a co-sponsor of the survey, the ASFP believes that the information therein is of significant importance to those involved in the industry in that it represents a current reflection of the business, in all its component parts, both in the passive and the active sectors.

The last time such a survey was published, back in 2002, the market for passive fire protection was deemed to be in the order of £1.2 billion. According to this new market survey, however, it now stands in the order of £1.8 billion, a considerable rise of some 50%.

On the surface, it would appear that such market growth; an average of 8.5% per annum, is unrealistically high. However, this new survey identifies sectors of the market that were not considered in the 2002 survey and when these anomalies are removed from the equation, the underlying growth can be seen to be in the order of 4% per annum.

Each product group is analysed under the headings of product and market structure, market development and future market direction. The survey also provides market sector forecasts for each key sector over the next three years.

Many issues affecting the market today and over the next three years are considered including, changing legislation (e.g. the introduction of the Fire Safety Order in 2006), the possible effects on the industry as it moves progressively away from operational British Standards to BS EN Standards and the effects anticipated from imports. The survey also considers other types of market driver that affect each sector of the market e.g. product third party certification and third party certificated installation.

The passive sector, for which the ASFP is responsible, is evaluated under the following six groupings:

Structural fire protection Fire stopping, penetration seals and cavity barriers Fire resisting ductwork and dampers, Fire resistant partitions, suspended ceilings, luminaires, composite panels and glazed screens Fire doors Flame retardant coatings

In the ASFP’s opinion this authoritative document not only confirms the current strength of the passive fire protection market, but also identifies it as having positive future potential across all sectors of the industry. The Survey is priced at £450 and further information can be obtained from the ASFP, Tournai Hall, Evelyn Woods Road, Aldershot GU11 2LL. Tel: 01252 357832. Fax: 01252 357831.
