Basic concepts: measurement units for EE, areas of study in EE 2. Signals, Systems and Circuits 3. Charge, Resistance, Voltage, Current, Power 4. Abstraction, Modularity, and Models with Circuit examples 5. Kirkhoff and Ohm’s laws. 6. Circuit topologies, passive sign convention, node voltage and mesh current methods. 7. Circuit Theorems (Superposition, Thevenin, Norton) 8. Circuit Analysis, Equivalent circuits, Series, parallel, Delta-Wye and Wye-Delta Equivalents 9. Modules: Resistor, Inductor, Capacitor, Diode, Transistor, Op-Amp, Motor 10. Signals and Systems , block diagram, feedback, models of systems, control. 11. Basic Microelectronics and Manufacturing processes 12. Operational amplifiers 13. Embedded computing (A/D, D/A, MSP 430, ROM, RAM, Microprocessor) 14. Ideas from basic lectures (for EE 1105 only): o Optics and Photonics (Prof. Magnusson) o EE courses (Prof. Tjuatja) o Electromagnetics, Radiation, Transmission (Prof. Bredow) o Sensing and Imaging (Prof. Devarajan) o Control and Robotics (Popa) o Wireless Communications (Prof. Liang) </p><p>Reading: Chapters 1-5 Textbook </p><p>The difference between 1105 final and 1106 final will be in the expectation for complex math and showing your work. In the 1105 final, expect the questions to be about understanding the concepts rather than elaborate calculations. Questions will be tailored to produce evidence that you have read and understood the materials discussed in class, the concept questions from homework and reading. There will be 50 multiple choice questions altogether, and at least 1 question from each of the invited lectures. .</p><p>Example questions for EE 1105 exam: - What is a system? a) A collection of blocks connected together b) An entity where inputs combine to produce outputs c) A circuit with resistors, capacitors and inductors d) All of the above</p><p>- What is the role of a capacitor? a) To store charge b) To store voltage c) To store current d) None of the above</p><p>- What is the purpose of a voltage divider? a) To amplify voltages b) To attenuate voltages c) To direct current in different parts of the circuit d) To isolate the input and output of a circuit e) All of the above</p><p>In the 1106 final, expect the questions to be related to the lab, concepts, as well as the mathematical mechanics of solving problems. Example problems will include: 1-2 loops KVL KCL circuit analysis, equivalent resistive circuits, op-Amps, and at least 1 question related to MSP-430.
