<p> U.S. History I Syllabus Mr. Parsley Fall Semester, 2015 Rm 211 Grade Scale: The following scale is used at SHS: A: 90-100% B: 80-89% C: 70-79% D: 60-69% F: 59% and below</p><p>Grading Procedure:</p><p>Tests: Each of the chapters we cover will have a comprehensive test. Tests, along with other formative assessments will account for roughly 70% of your grade. Retakes on these can be taken for 1/2 credit if arrangements are made. (within three day of getting the test back)</p><p>Daily Work: Daily work is assigned to be completed in class or as homework. Assignments are considered late if not handed in the day they are due. 20% per day will be deducted for late work. Daily work accounts for roughly 30% of your grade</p><p>Quizzes: Quizzes over content will be given periodically throughout the semester. </p><p>Check on Learning: Periodically at the beginning of the class period, there will be a “question of the day” over the material we covered the previous day that you will be required to respond to in writing on your white board. These responses will be checked for accuracy and understanding of content.</p><p>Makeup Work: The handbook states that you have one day to make up assignments for every excused day missed. You are responsible for finding out what we did and ensure assignments are completed.</p><p>Class Outline:</p><p>Unit 1- Addresses the Age of Jackson and Manifest Destiny, Sectionalism and Slavery in the United States. (1830-1860)</p><p>Unit 2- Focuses on the American Civil War and its legacy.(1860-1865)</p><p>Unit 3- Looks at the Reconstruction and Western Expansion periods immediately after the Civil War.(1870-1900) </p><p>Unit 4- Addresses the Industrial Age and the Effects of Immigration. (1880-1920)</p><p>Unit 5- Focuses on America’s global expansion and increased role on the world stage. (1898-1916)</p><p>Unit 6- Looks at the First World War and the long term effects of this first global conflict. MR. PARSLEY’S CLASSROOM RULES</p><p>1. Be in class on time every day with a positive attitude. 2. Get assignments in on time. 3. Food and drink are not allowed in the classroom. 4. Stay seated until the bell rings. 5. Bathroom privilege- one free one per month. Time will be made up after school for additional emergencies. 6. Cell phones, ipods and other personal listening devices are not allowed for use in the classroom unless authorized by the teacher for educational purposes. You will receive one warning. If your phone/device is out a second time, the phone/device is put in the coffee can every day at the beginning of class and picked up at the end of class.</p>
