Introduction

These tools are intended to be used as templates and to be adapted by companies to reflect their individual context. Policies can be used individually, or together.

They follow best practice and variations in local jurisdictions need to be considered.

When using, each policy needs an introduction from the company setting the policy in context and providing an understanding of why the policy is needed etc.

These tools and templates in this document should be used as a reference by organisations who do not have equivalent policies.

We have not suggested monetary limits for gifts, invitations & hospitality. Many organisations will choose to provide more specific guidance to help employees make the right decision. If you already have monetary limits in place for gifts, invitations & hospitality, it would be advisable to examine them in order to make sure that they are sufficiently low to avoid risks of bribery or corruption and if not, adjust them as appropriate.

For these policies to be effectively implemented and monitored, the Board needs to nominate someone to take ownership for them. This person could sit directly on the Board or be someone that reports to a Board member. Often this role is part of the remit for the Head of Legal but in other organisations a Head of Ethics, Head of Corporate Responsibility or Compliance Officer is appointed. These are the examples that we use throughout the policies. Where ownership sits will be dependent on company structures and so other roles could take responsibility. What is critical is that clear ownership and accountability for implementation and monitoring is given.

Release 1.0 – May 2013

1
