KAUFMAN COUNTY CLERK</p><p>NEWS RELEASE Contact: Hector de Leon November 13, 2008 713.755.6738 - 713.539.0114</p><p>Final unofficial Election results are now available on the County Clerk’s website: Results included overseas and provisional ballots</p><p>Houston, TX, Thursday, November 13, 2008- Harris County Clerk Beverly Kaufman announced today that the vote tabulating process for this election cycle is now complete. In accordance with the election code, provisional and overseas ballots have now been added to the Nov. 4th General and Special Elections unofficial voting results. The additional votes are reflected in the final unofficial cumulative report which can be found on the Clerk’s Election webpage, www.harrisvotes.com. </p><p>“The vote tabulating process is complete. The unofficial final tally for the Nov. 4th Election is now ready to be presented to the Election Canvassing Board for certification,” said Kaufman, the chief elections officer of the County. </p><p>Election law provides that the tabulating process is complete once overseas ballots and provisional ballots are included in the vote count. According to Clerk Kaufman, election administrators must wait five days after General Election Day for the arrival of any overseas ballots that are postmarked by 7 p.m. on Election Day. Additionally, the law stipulates that between Election Day and the date the results are certified, a Provisional Ballot Board must convene to determine whether individuals who voted provisionally were qualified to vote. The Provisional Ballot Board is composed of representatives from the Democratic, Republican and Libertarian parties. </p><p>Approximately 1811 provisional ballots were accepted by the Provisional Ballot Board for counting. And 1174 overseas ballots arrived within the five day waiting period after Election Day. The updated cumulative report also includes the votes of 88 individuals who voted a limited ballot and a few voters who wrote-in their presidential choice. 201 Caroline, 4th Floor ∙ P.O.
