Boston Spa Parish Council Monthly Newsletter

January 2014

For more details of the work done by the Parish Council please visit the Parish Council website at www.bostonspapc.org.uk this has Minutes from Parish Council meetings and lots of useful information about the village of Boston Spa

Miller Homes and Grove Road

Miller Homes has appealed to The Secretary of State for non–determination of their outline planning application to build up to 104 houses on Grove Road. This means that a public inquiry will have to be held because Leeds’ planners neither granted permission nor refused the application. It is hoped that the Inquiry will be held in Boston Spa in May. The second, detailed, planning application is due to be considered by the local authority at some stage this month and is being recommended for refusal. Whether or not that will cause Miller Homes to rethink the appeal situation remains to be seen. However they do seem to be determined to turn this green space on the edge of our village into a large housing estate despite the overwhelming strength of opposition by residents.

The objections raised by residents range from over development of the area, the local roads not being capable of handling the extra traffic that 104 additional homes would obviously bring, to the lack of primary school places in our village and the additional burden put on other services such as the doctors. Very importantly the green space between the parishes of Boston Spa and Clifford would be further eroded. The cynical timing of this appeal seems to be designed to pre- empt our Neighbourhood Plan process, which once adopted, could help resist this type of application succeeding in the future.

Leeds planners did raise a large number of concerns in a ‘Position Statement’ issued on 16th October 2013 and the Parish Council is determined to make the views of local people fully heard at the Inquiry.

Many people are saying this feels just the same as Church Fields, though we all hope for a very different outcome as we, the Parish Council along with the Neighbourhood Plan team, battle to save our green space around Boston Spa.

We will try to keep residents updated as the situation evolves.

Leeds’ Planning Panel Report can be seen here (if you get a warning message the file is quite safe to download )

ENGAGE PAGE

Have a comment to make??
