What is a Gathering? Why did they call one in Chapter 9?</p><p>A gathering is when all the Keepers meet to discuss something. They only call these when something weird or terrible happens. 2. Why did Thomas compare the Glade to a prison? Give as many similarities as possible. Do you agree with him? Why or why not. </p><p>Thomas compares the Glade to a prison because there was no way out, and their memories have been wiped.</p><p>3. What did Thomas discover while exploring in Chapter 10?</p><p>He discovered a Beetle Blade and followed it. He also found the Graveyard.</p><p>4. Who, or what, attacked Thomas in Chapter 10? Why did he attack Thomas? Do you believe his claims about Thomas in Chapter 11? Why or why not?</p><p>The sick boy, Ben, attacked Thomas. He attacked Thomas because he believed Thomas would harm them all and that he’s not one of them. Opinion so answers will vary.</p><p>5. What happened to Ben? Why? How did Thomas feel about it? Why?</p><p>Ben was shot through the cheek with an arrow by Alby because he would not stop attacking Thomas. Thomas felt bad that he was their cause of hurt or death. He couldn’t figure out why Ben wanted to hurt him.</p><p>6. Why was Thomas glad to get to work in Chapter 11? What was the first job he tried? What did he think of it? Why?</p><p>Thomas wanted to take his mind off of all that had happened so far and to stay busy. The first job he tried was in the Blood House taking care of the animals. He didn’t like it, especially the slaughtering of the hog. He said he would never eat anything from a pig (pg.78) again based on what he had observed.</p>
