<p> Modern World History Mrs. Novitski Room 315 [email protected] (920) 793-4425 x5315</p><p>Course Description: From the Renaissance Period to the present, Modern World History will allow students to connect people, eras and events of the past to the present. Students will learn about the world’s major religions, times of great change and new ideas, different forms of government, the horrors of war and stories of struggle and triumph. Major eras in Modern World History include: The Renaissance, the Age of Exploration and Expansion, Absolutism and Monarchy, the Age of Enlightenment and Revolution, the Age of Imperialism, the Era of War and Depression, Post-WWII to the present.</p><p>Text Used: World History: Patterns of Interaction, McDougal Littell.</p><p>Classroom Expectations: 1. RESPECT My classroom is a safe place where learning, teaching, and collaboration occur. No one is allowed to engage in any behavior that prohibits these events from occurring. </p><p>Grading scale: 100-90 A 89-80 B 79-70 C 69-60 D 59-0 F</p><p>Electronic Device Policy: Students are to place their electronic devices (phones, mp3 players, etc) in the “Phone Zone” upon entering the classroom. Phones are to remain there until the end of class.</p><p>Grade Components: Quarter grades will be composed of a variety of scores including participation, weekly quizzes (we will have a quiz on the last day of every week), projects, and daily assignments.</p><p>Semester Exams: Semester exams will be given at the end of both 1st and 2nd semesters. The exam will count as 20% of the final semester grade. Participation: Students may earn up to 100 participation points each quarter. Participation points will be given for students being present in class on time, arriving with all necessary materials, phones put away, all homework assignments completed, and by participating in class discussions. Materials required each day include: 1. A writing utensil 2. 1” binder 3. 8 tabs 4. Loose leaf paper 5. Colored pencils</p><p>Make Up Procedure: Students who miss an assignment or test due to an excused absence will be given the opportunity to make it up. The make up date will be twice the number of days the student has missed in accordance with the policy set forth by TRHS. It is the responsibility of the student to find out, either from a classmate, myself or my website, what assignments were missed.</p><p>Missing/Late Assignments: Assignments will be due at the beginning of the hour unless otherwise specified. 1 day late = 80% of earned score 2 days late = 70% of earned score 3+ days late = 50% credit earned</p><p>Extra Credit: Extra credit is not available. </p><p>Getting Help: DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK!!! That is why I am here!!! That is why we have resource period built into our schedule. If you do not understand something or need additional help you need to see me ASAP!
