<p> Persuasive 1-3-1 Essay Rubric</p><p>4 ___ There is an introduction paragraph. It contains very clear background information which provides a enough background knowledge for the reader. A thesis statement follows which reflects the writer’s opinion. Following this, there are three arguments that support the thesis, but not explained in detail. ___ The body of the essay has a separate paragraph for each argument mentioned in the introduction. Each paragraph has a strong and direct topic sentence. Each argument uses evidence and scenarios which strongly persuade the reader to believe the thesis is true. ___ The conclusion restates the thesis in a different, yet creative way. The three arguments are then given in a creative, yet general fashion. ___ Vocabulary used is above grade level. Overall wording has excellent flow.</p><p>3 ___ There is an introduction paragraph which contains adequate background information. It is followed by a thesis statement reflecting the writer’s opinion. A sentence which lists three general arguments with no detail is then written. ___ The body of the essay has a separate paragraph for each argument mentioned in the introduction. Each paragraph has a topic sentence. Each argument uses evidence and scenarios which persuade the reader. ___ The conclusion restates the thesis in different words. The three arguments are again mentioned in general fashion. ___ Vocabulary used is on grade level. Overall wording is well done and easy to follow.</p><p>2 ___ There is an introduction paragraph. It may be missing either background, thesis statement, or three general arguments. If all three elements exist, the wording may possibly be difficult to understand. ___ The body of the essay may have some weak evidence to support the arguments, there are not three distinct paragraphs for each argument, and weak topic sentences may exist. ___ There is a conclusion, but it may not re-mention either the thesis or the three arguments again. It is possibly the wording may be hard to follow. ___ Vocabulary is used on grade level but overall wording is a bit redundant. The overall choice of wording could be better. </p><p>1 ___ There may or may not be evidence of an introduction paragraph. It is not written correctly. The format which has been given has not been followed. ____The body has only one paragraph or very weak evidence to attempt to support the arguments given in the introduction. ___ The conclusion does not restate the thesis or the three arguments again or may not even exist. ___ Vocabulary used is generally below grade level. Overall wording has poor flow.</p>
