Press Release Redwitz, Germany, April 2017

LAPP Insulators Alumina: Ceramic-to-Metal Parts even 3D-Printed – A Brilliant Idea behind Every Product (Hall 6 / Stand B16)

LAPP Insulators Alumina manufactures for more than 45 years semiconductor housings for high performance electronics.

The company is quality leader in the high power >1 GW domain. Each year around 300 000 housings are produced.

The core technology is hard brazed aluminium oxide (Al2O3) to metals such as copper (OF, SE) or Ni-Fe-alloys as well as stainless steel. As the leading technology company in the field of ceramic-to-metal sealing, LAPP Insulators

Alumina offers products for vacuum, medicine, laser, measurement, plasma, X-ray, accelerator, radiofrequency, chemical micro reactors, sensors and energy management.

The roots of LAPP Insulators Alumina go back to the ceramics division of the world famous Siemens Corporation.

LAPP Alumina produces in addition to thyristor and diode housings, metallized ceramic vacuum interruptor tubes, vacuum feedthroughs and isolators and customized products.

Standard programs have been created for the vacuum feedthroughs and isolators to meet the requirements for vacuum designs like ISO KF and CF. The standard vacuum feedthroughs offers items in the voltage range from 1 kV to 8 kV and current up to 80A.

Special know-how in the ceramic-to-metal arena enables a wide range of industrial electronic applications to be served: from bondable ceramic sensor rings for thin or thick wires through laser beam generator tubes to multipols for electron beam deflection. Designing such demanding components is done by LAPP Insulators Alumina with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) calculations to determine the thermo-mechanical loads. The best versions can be optimized from the outset – eliminating guesswork and trial-and-error, before the first part is manufactured. This is a big customer benefit by saving development time and costs. Ceramic-to-metal assemblies made by LAPP are displaying a combination of typically ceramic properties like electrical isolation and typically metallic attributes such as weld ability, which can be exactly located at the position required by the application. The customers get a multi-functional benefit, utilizing the best properties of ceramics and metals in a single component. Thereby the brazed compound is vacuum dense. Alumina offers the complete mastery of process technologies, from the passive and active brazing to glass bonding for ceramic-ceramic-joints. The newest product familiy made by LAPP Insulators Alumina are 3d-printed

Alumina components for microreactors and cryogenic heat exchangers.

(2605 Characters)

Figure captions

(LAPP_1_2017-4.tif)

3D-printed separation column alumina ceramic 99,9 % for microreactor

(LAPP_2_2017-4.tif)

Ceramic sensor-ring gold plated and ultrasonic bondable for thin wires

Press contact

LAPP Insulators Alumina GmbH, Dr Holger Wampers, hwampers@lappinsulators- alumina.com

CERAMIC APPLICATIONS, Karin Scharrer, [email protected]

Hannover Messe, Hall 6, Stand B16
