J.R. Franklin, 86, of Holliday, Died Monday, July 28, 2008

<p>J.R. Franklin</p><p>J.R. Franklin, 86, of Holliday, died Monday, July 28, 2008.</p><p>The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at the Holliday Cemetery Pavilion with the Rev. Darryl Sewell, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Holliday, officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Ow ens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.</p><p>A son of the late J.W. “Bill” and Della Franklin, he was born December 28, 1921, in Mountainair, N.M. On November 24, 1942, he married Louise Dunn. She preceded him in death one year ago, to the day. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Kathryn Ward and Ruby Muhlbauer.</p><p>J.R. grew up in the Geraldin-Holliday area and resided in Holliday for more than 70 years. He owned and operated J.R. Franklin Tank Truck Service for many years before going to work on the Howard Lyles Ranch. He then worked for ten years for Archer County, Precinct 1, before retiring in 1992. After retirement, he operated a lawn mower repair shop from his home in Holliday.</p><p>J.R. proudly served in World War II, in the Army Air Corp as a Glider mechanic in the South Pacific. He served on the Holliday School Board for 10 years and was on the Holliday City Council. He was a teacher for the 3-year-olds in Sunday School at the First Baptist Church of Holliday.</p><p>Survivors include his children, Carolyn Scheid and husband, Bob of Belleville, Ill.; Jay Franklin and wife, Pat of Newark, Texas; Ann Yancey and husband, Mike of Lakeside City; and Ken Franklin and wife, Lou of Holliday; grandchildren, Kelley Euchner and husband, Rod of Belleville, Ill.; Kim Pees and husband, Jesse of Belleville, Ill.; Tiffany Witthaus and husband, Keith of Azle; Amber High and husband, Justin of Weatherford; Coy Highsmith of San Antonio; Corey Yancey and wife, Kristen of Lakeside City; Carrie Zdanowski and husband, Darrin of Tuttle, Okla.; Jay Russe Franklin and Brittany Franklin of Holliday; Jenni Burns and husband, Brent of Greenville; Chad Tomaselli and Carly Flaherty of Wichita Falls; and Amy Elder and husband, Isaac of Yuma, Ariz.; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Scheid; Sydney Euchner; Robbie Pees, Kimberely Witthaus; Carter and Reagan High; Mason and Connor Yancey; Carley Zdanowski; Hayley and Brooks Burns; and Marcus Moreno and Valerie Franklin; sisters, Donna Cooper of Abilene; June Tackett of Mountain Home, Ark.; and Peggy Sunden of Spring Branch; also, many nieces and nephews.</p><p>The family received friends from 6 until 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.
