<p>NZQA registered unit standard 11079 version 2 Page 1 of 3</p><p>Title Prepare and inspect ladles for steel casting</p><p>Level 3 Credits 35</p><p>Purpose This unit standard is for people working in the steel manufacturing sector.</p><p>People credited with this unit standard are able to: prepare ladles; inspect ladles; heat ladles; and emergency box liquid steel.</p><p>Classification Steel Manufacturing > Steel Making</p><p>Available grade Achieved</p><p>Explanatory notes</p><p>1 Definition Company documentation refers to the documented procedures, manufacturer’s manuals and selected reference texts for the equipment and process.</p><p>2 Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is not limited to – Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991.</p><p>3 This unit standard must be assessed in a workplace environment.</p><p>Outcomes and evidence requirements</p><p>Outcome 1</p><p>Prepare ladles.</p><p>Evidence requirements</p><p>1.1 Installation and operation components are checked to ensure casting ladles are ready in time for scheduled requirements.</p><p>Range components include but are not limited to – gates, hydraulic rams, lines.</p><p>1.2 Sanding of ladles meets company specifications for type, moisture content, and volume.</p><p>Competenz Ó New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2018 SSB Code 101571 NZQA registered unit standard 11079 version 2 Page 2 of 3</p><p>Outcome 2</p><p>Inspect ladles.</p><p>Evidence requirements</p><p>2.1 Ladles are inspected after drying and pre-heating in accordance with company documentation to ensure casting ladles are ready for use.</p><p>Range inspection includes but is not limited to – refractories, gate blockages.</p><p>2.2 Ladles are inspected after casting in accordance with company documentation to ensure casting ladles are cycled through the steel making sequence.</p><p>Range inspection includes but is not limited to – refractories, gates, skulling.</p><p>Outcome 3</p><p>Heat ladles.</p><p>Evidence requirements</p><p>3.1 Ladles are heated in accordance with company documentation.</p><p>Range heating includes but is not limited to – dry new ladles or pre-heat ladles for use.</p><p>3.2 Ladles are heated in accordance with company documentation for temperature and time.</p><p>Outcome 4</p><p>Emergency box liquid steel.</p><p>Evidence requirements</p><p>4.1 The number of boxes available for emergency boxing is sufficient to accommodate one full ladle.</p><p>4.2 Directions given to crane operators ensures liquid steel is poured into boxes without spillage occurring.</p><p>Planned review date 31 December 2012</p><p>Competenz Ó New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2018 SSB Code 101571 NZQA registered unit standard 11079 version 2 Page 3 of 3</p><p>Status information and last date for assessment for superseded versions Process Version Date Last Date for Assessment Registration 1 29 April 1998 31 December 2012 Rollover and 2 15 March 2012 N/A Revision</p><p>Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR) reference 0013 This CMR can be accessed at http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/framework/search/index.do.</p><p>Please note Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.</p><p>Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.</p><p>Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.</p><p>Requirements for consent to assess and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR).
