<p> THE ANIMAL HEALTH TRUST</p><p>JOB DESCRIPTION / PERSON SPECIFICATION</p><p>Role Title: Resident in small animal surgery Location: CSAS (orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery) Department: Surgery (soft tissue and orthopaedics) HERA Level / Salary Student Band Reports to: Head of Soft Tissue Surgery Direct Reports:</p><p>Role Overview: Six month probationary internship, followed by a three year senior clinical training scholarship in with the aim of becoming a Diplomate of the European College in Veterinary Surgery Roles &  Provide a clinical surgical service for CSAS as part of the surgery unit including out of hours work Responsibilities:  Enrol for the Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Surgery and fulfil the requirements of the residency program, including undertaking a clinical research project plus another publication  Proactively promote and develop a caseload and help to develop the skills of the support staff to undertaking the necessary work.  Ensure that close co-operation and communication between the orthopaedic/soft tissue service and other services within the clinic continues  Proactively manage customer care for all cases (e.g. clients, referring veterinarians, Trust colleagues or outside bodies), ensuring the service provided meets the standards of the Trust, report any customer issues/complaints in a timely manner to the Head of Orthopaedics/Soft Tissue.  Ensure legal/regulatory requirements relating to work undertaken are fulfilled.  Develop the veterinary clinical standing of the Trust, by raising its profile (and that of orthopaedics/Soft Tissue)  Engage in delivery of CPD both independently and alongside other clinical areas, for and on behalf of the AHT at local, national and international meetings  Contribute to peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed publications. Necessary  One year rotating clinical internship or a period of time spent working in veterinary clinical practice Skills/Aptitude/  Good interpersonal skills Knowledge/  Excellent communication skills Experience:  Ability to develop and foster internal and external networks, including referring vets  Ensure customer-orientated service is provided in a cost-effective manner  Ability to pro-actively manage caseload  Ability to incorporate aspects of clinical audit into routine work Desirable  Basic teaching skills Skills/Aptitude/  Basic IT skills Knowledge/  Basic skills required for clinical research Experience:  Ability to lecture and provide CPD at a national and international level  Some involvement with relevant national/international specialist bodies  Ability to contribute meaningfully to strategic discussions affecting clinical areas  Excellent written and spoken English skills (minimum score of 7.5 IELTS or equivalent).
