Supplementary Information

Supplementary Figure 1a: Body weights for LFD and HFD mice.

The body weights for each mouse was measured weekly for 20 weeks. LFD represents 9 C57BL/6J mice fed on the low fat diet. HFD represents 30 C57BL/6J mice fed on the high fat diet. A significant difference in their body weights was noted around 6 weeks. Supplementary Figure 1b: Blood glucose levels for LFD and HFD mice.

The blood glucose levels were measured weekly for 20 weeks. LFD represents 9 C57BL/6J mice fed on the low fat diet. HFD represents 30 C57BL/6J mice fed on the high fat diet. A significant difference in blood glucose levels was obtained roughly after 7 weeks on the diet. This observation supports the hypotheses that significant weight gain is a leading contributor to the development of type 2 diabetes.
