PURPOSE Prepare a temporary HEPA ventilation system to provide local ventilation to mitigate personnel exposure to Pb and prevent Pb release to the environment. Outline the steps needed to operate and maintain this temporary ventilation system. 2. SCOPE AND APPLICABILITY Operation of the 1000SCFM Abatement Technologies portable HEPA-Aire ventilation system exhaust will be connected (via clamps) to the 8” stack on the north wall. 3. PREREQUISITES 3.1 The HEPA filter has been tested per MCP 2747. A D.O.P. test is required every three months. 3.2 HEPA filter inspection is current.</p><p>3.3 120 VAC A/C power is available </p><p>3.4 Building ventilation stack is not obstructed by bird nests, debris, or snow.</p><p>3.5 Suction ducting labeled “Poison Lead Contaminated.”</p><p>4. INSTRUCTIONS 4.1 Ventilation startup.</p><p>4.1.1 Plug in the unit.</p><p>4.1.2 Turn the fan switch on.</p><p>4.2 Ventilation shut down</p><p>4.2.1 Turn fan switch off.</p><p>4.3 Ventilation Pre-Filter Replacement</p><p>NOTE: Before beginning this procedure, have the following on hand: 1) new pre-filter, and 2) a plastic bag big enough to hold the used pre-filter.</p><p>4.3.1 Don PPE per procedure 100-2.</p><p>4.3.2 Perform ventilation system shut down per step 4.2. Bechtel BWXT Idaho, LLC (10/29/99 - Rev. #1.0) IHRG Pb-Alloy Corrosion Study Identifier: Pb Procedures MSN-99-789 Procedures Revision: 2.0 Page: 2 of 3 Area 300 Procedure 2 Ventilation Effective Date: 7/10/00</p><p>4.3.3 Unplug ventilation fan, and keep the plug within line of sight or within arms reach at all times during filter replacement.</p><p>4.3.4 Open ventilation fan enclosure.</p><p>NOTE: The fan is below the HEPA filter and is inaccessible to operators.</p><p>4.3.5 The pre-filter is the top most filter (it is similar to a standard house furnace filter).</p><p>4.3.6 Slide the pre-filter from the fan holder directly into a plastic bag.</p><p>4.3.7 Close the plastic bag.</p><p>4.3.8 Don a new pair of latex gloves.</p><p>4.3.9 Install a new pre-filter.</p><p>4.3.10 Close the filter box.</p><p>4.3.11 Remove latex gloves.</p><p>4.3.12 Plug in the fan.</p><p>4.4 HEPA filter replacement</p><p>4.4.1 Don PPE per procedure 100-2.</p><p>4.4.2 Perform ventilation system shut down per step 4.2. </p><p>4.4.3 Unplug ventilation fan.</p><p>4.4.4 Slide the HEPA from the fan holder directly into a plastic bag.</p><p>4.4.5 Close the plastic bag.</p><p>4.4.6 Don a new pair of latex gloves.</p><p>4.4.7 Install a new HEPA.</p><p>4.4.8 Close the filter box.</p><p>4.4.9 Plug in the fan. RECORDS 5.1 Record operating hours in the start-up checklist (procedure 100-4)</p><p>6. DEFINITIONS 6.1 HEPA: High Efficiency Particulate Air Filter</p><p>6.2 D.O.P. Test: Use of an oil that is made to smoke by bubbling gas through it to challenge the integrity of the HEPA material. An optical device is utilized to measure the smoke pass-through.</p><p>6.3 Reostat: Electro-mechanical device used to control fan speed, i.e. fan flow rate.</p><p>7.
