<p> 1</p><p>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE</p><p>Contact: John Macready 214-634-02-4</p><p>NEW CLASSES, DESIGN COMPETITIONS HIGHLIGHT FASHION GROUP CAREER DAY, APRIL 9, 2010</p><p>DALLAS, TX – Feb. 15, 2010 – Nearly 1000 top students and faculty from over 40 colleges and universities will converge on Dallas Market Center’s World Trade Center Saturday, April 9, 2010 for the 42nd annual Fashion Group Dallas Career Day. </p><p>Regarded as the longest running and largest fashion career event of its kind in the country, Career Day provides students in the fashion and lifestyle industries an opportunity to participate in more than 20 educational seminars and workshops, as well as compete for thousands of dollars in scholarship prizes. The much-anticipated event provides students the unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the movers and shakers in Dallas’ fashion industry.</p><p>This year, Career Day adds to its program of 21 sessions classes on Styling, Socially Responsible Manufacturing for the Small Design Entrepreneur, Interview Skills and Resumes, and Social Media Marketing. </p><p>Career Day is most well known for its exciting student design competitions, culminating in a full-scale runway show featuring hundreds of student designs on professional runway models. Last season’s Project Runway contestants, Shirin Askiri and Louise Black, are Career Day alums. </p><p>New competitions added this year include “The Little Red Dress” named for Dallas Market Center’s “Red” campaign; and “Re-Purposed, Re-Cycled, Re-Used Denim,” which invites students to create a completely new look out of a used denim garment. Neiman Marcus Willow Bend is sponsoring the new “Fashion Illustration” competition.</p><p>More than 700 student entries are received for the design, as well as merchandising and trend board competitions. Fashion Group International of Dallas grants more than $30,000 in scholarship funds and awards in partnership with the Texas Department of Agriculture. The Best of Show winner receives tuition for one month at the acclaimed Paris American Academy, plus air fare and a spending allowance. Additional awards are provided by Four-Legged Fashion for canine couture designs, and DAVACO, a retail services provider.</p><p>Rounding out the slate of activities are keynote addresses by industry leaders and a Career Resource Center offering students information and career advice. 2</p><p>School registration for Career Day is underway now through the March 19th deadline.
