<p>Gerrymandering My Class…</p><p>1) Have each student select their favorite ice cream flavor (I allow them to choose vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry). (You can pass around a sign up sheet the day before…) 2) Use your seating chart to label students with their preferences. (I put a C on the seats of students who picked chocolate, a v for vanilla, etc.) 3) Redistrict the classroom according to the ice cream flavors, creating at least 2 different maps. Have the chocolates win 3 of 4 districts and then use another map to have the vanillas win 3 of 4 districts. 4) Show the students how, without changing the location or affiliation of any seat, you were able to completely shift the power in the classroom from chocolate to vanilla or vanilla to chocolate. 5) Have students look at your map for examples of packing and cracking…. </p>
