PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH PARISH COUNCIL MINUTES

8 NOVEMBER 2016 OCTOBER 2016 6:30PM -8:00PM CDT

Parish Update and New Business:

Minutes from October, 2016 meeting were approved (Auggie moved and Laura Robinson 2nd the motion).

Finance Council –

Ramon reported that St. Peter’s is on track with last year regarding expenses and collections and the daily operations of the parish. He reminded us that the Literary Society exists to help with long-term building upkeep. We discussed putting the Financial statements in the bulletin for parishioners to see, but we will not have them on the website or otherwise electronically accessible. When the statements are published we will have members of the Finance Council available in the church to answer questions.

The roof is an ongoing project. P and J sheet metal company has done their work on the outskirt of the building (about $100,000 work). Christian Brothers insurance is looking into the work that needs to be done on the gabled roof (including hail damage). The total amount of the work to be completed is $383,000 (the roof was put in in the 1930’s).

Walker J. Walker HVAC is finishing their work. We have a monthly account that sets aside money for repairs (allocated savings account/net excess account for Literary Society $460,000). We also need to re-work our fire system as our panel isn’t in compliance (we need 2 access panels). The shrine and rectory are 2 separate accounts. Coleman Maintenance company is planning to do a big clean-up for the holidays.

Outreach Coordinators –

Fr. Auggie suggested that Norma Montesi and Julia Waggoner lead this group with the help of Adele Landers, Patty Bladon and someone from the Young Adults (we want to

St. Peter Catholic Church Parish Council Meeting 11 October, 2016 Page 2 ST. Julia mentioned that people sign up to help but then they don’t follow through with their commitments. We need to let our parishioners know about opportunities to serve in our parish. Julia will talk to Norma to see if she is interested in helping out with this group.

Stewardship Chair possibilities –

Craig Cardwell, Bob Nieman, Bobby and Ann Leatherman, Frank and Joe Clark, Adele Landers, Jack Bolotin, David Latta or John Stukenborg? It would be nice if we could have a mentor/mentee situation to help provide continuity. We need to stress that it is a comprehensive ministry – talent, time and treasure.

Hospitality –

Mimi Wade will serve as Chair.

By Law Revisions –

Fr. Auggie chose Bill Robinson and Sandra Douglas (at-large members) to serve on this ad hoc committee (an additional person from the diocese will complete the committee). The question was asked, “ Is there someone from the Diocese that helps Parish Councils with retreats?”

Council changes –

Fr. Auggie will make them soon.

Young Adults –

Jack reported that now is an interesting time for their ministry (some folks are “aging out” and others have moved away). There is a renaissance of sorts with their changing leadership council. In September they conducted a “welcome week” for new folks. They feel a sense of urgency to get organized to reach out to young adults with a new leadership team (others will continue to serve as resources).

Miscellaneous announcements:

The Liturgy committee will meet on next Tuesday.

St. Peter Catholic Church Parish Council Meeting 11 October, 2016 Page 3 ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH PARISH COUNCIL MINUTES

8 NOVEMBER 2016 OCTOBER 2016 6:30PM -8:00PM CDT

Gay reported for Cynthia Pratt on needs of St. Augustine school and Fr. Auggie suggested that we let Lori know so that they can be included in the bulletin.

Deadline for Christmas ministeries to Jane by 12/1. Since Christmas falls on a Sunday this year, Family Mass will be on Saturday evening and there will be a midnight mass. There will be a 10 am Christmas Day mass (no 8:30 or 11 mass). New Year’s Day will have 8:30 and 11masses.

Angel Tree –

The tree will be going up in a week and we will be collecting for Catholic Charities of TN (Gifts for God’s children). We also reached out to the Dorothy Day House and if there are too many requests it was suggested that the Dominican Laity could perhaps support that group? Sorters for the gifts will be needed, ask the Men’s group? 12/11 will be the last day to drop off gifts and they will then be picked up on 12/16.

Archives –

Bobbie asked Jack to see if the Young Adults would want to volunteer to set up a display of archived materials.

Trivia night was a success. Perhaps we can have another square dance or Lindy hop party?

Fr. Auggie announced that Mike Fitzmorris (who is 84) is having health issues. He fell a few weeks ago and then again this past Friday. His neighbors are helping him, but he would welcome a phone call or you can take him a meal.

Next Meeting will be January 10, 2017 at 6 pm.

Meeting adjourned at 7:18 pm.

St. Peter Catholic Church Parish Council Meeting 11 October, 2016 Page 4
