State the Z.</p><p>By emphasizing an urgent tone and patriotic appeal, Abraham Lincoln constructs a need for immediate action. This action can then rally the citizens to continue fighting until “all men are created equal.”</p><p>Abraham Lincoln’s sense of urgency is parlayed into an ethical call for action by individuals who may have become disheartened by war. His words then ensure that we continue to fight to establish a country of equality. </p><p>Lincoln begins his address with a reference to the founding of America and its ideological beliefs. Within those beliefs is the ideal that “all men are created equal” yet this right has only been granted to a fraction of the population (#). The remedy to the moral problem is to uphold the concepts upon which others “gave their lives that that nation might live” (#). Lincoln honors the lives of those who have died for liberty and utilizes them as inspirational figures to ethically demand action. He reminds us that we cannot witness injustices that have been committed and remain passive.</p><p>Such passiveness is further repelled by his crucial claim that “we can not dedicate—we can not consecrate—we cannot hallow—this ground” without continuing the efforts of fallen soldiers… </p>
