<p>Shelton State Community Education Adds Art Appreciation Class</p><p>Tuscaloosa - The Community Education Division of Shelton State Community College has added an Art Appreciation class to its Spring Schedule. The class will be facilitated by Jim Harrison III, owner of Harrison Galleries in downtown Tuscaloosa.</p><p>"I believe that this is going to be a very interesting session. The cost of the course is $29.00 - so it is a bargain!" said June Hollingsworth, Coordinator of Community Education at Shelton State.</p><p>To register for the Art Appreciation class, which is limited to 30 participants, or any of the dozens of other courses offered by Shelton State Community Education, call June Hollingsworth at (205) 391-2360. A full listing of class offerings can be found at www.sheltonstate.edu, and then click on the Lifelong Learning link.</p><p>Course Description:</p><p>Thursday, March 30, 2006 Harrison Galleries 6-8 p.m.</p><p>Welcome and Introduction</p><p>A brief reflection will be presented on the history of art in the western world with an emphasis on painting. Discussion will include the key events and artists who have shaped our attitudes toward painting in Europe and America. Included also will be the discussion of tools and techniques. Following the informational session, a walking tour of the Harrison Galleries will be conducted with discussion regarding how to personally view a painting.</p><p>Thursday, April 6, 2006 Artrageous Riverfront Arts Tour 6-8 p.m.</p><p>On the first Thursday of every month, the communities of Tuscaloosa and Northport come together for the Artrageous Riverfront Arts Tour. The evening will begin at the Harrison Galleries where participants will board a shuttle and tour galleries in both Tuscaloosa and Northport, including Matt Jones Gallery, Liz Charles Gallery, the Junior League Gallery at the Bama Theatre featuring Jerry Lamb's photography, the Kentuck Museum for Art Night in Northport, the Renaissance Gallery and a stop at "Artists' Row." Music and refreshments will be included.</p><p>Thursday, April 20, 2006 Westervelt Varner Museum of American Art 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.</p><p>Commodore Jack Warner will serve as the host for this evening at the Westervelt Warner Museum. The Westervelt Warner Museum includes a display of one of the finest, privately owned collections of American art and antiques in the world. # # #</p>
