<p> Great Rivers District 2015 Fall Camporee Theme - Mining in Society Merit Badge “Minions in Mining” Fred C. Andersen Scout Camp (upper level) Friday October 9 – Sunday October 11 Cost is $15 per Scout/ $7 per adult The cost of the event covers facility rental and fees, program material, patches and awards. Mining has been an important part of our nation since the 19th century. Today, the industry employs 3 million Americans, directly and indirectly, and is a major contributor to the global mining landscape. This merit badge covers the history of mining, explores the status of mining in the 21st century, introduces Scouts to modern mining careers, and explores the all-important topic of mining safety. Merit Badge stations will be hosted by volunteers including professional exploration, environmental and mining geologists and engineers, and they are planning to bring with them drill rigs and exploration equipment. Scouts have the opportunity to complete the new Mining in Society merit badge at the camporee if they participate in all the day’s events. To receive credit, each Scout should print out the merit badge worksheet and bring it to the camporee. Each Scoutmaster will determine if the Scout has completed the rank advancement requirement to their satisfaction. ***JUST ADDED – We have determined we can also offer the Geology Merit Badge during the same time frame. It is not an either/or option but rather the Scouts can earn BOTH merit badges.*** Special thanks to our professional partners: Professional Service Industries, Inc.; Envirachem, Inc.; Alcoa North America and the Minnesota Geological Society. Troops are welcome to invite 2nd year Webelos to come camping with your Troop. There will not be a separate Webelos program offered at the Fall Camporee; however, Webelos attendance should fulfill all or a majority of the geologist activity badge and also fulfill requirements toward the Arrow of Light Award. Each year the camporee will have a cuisine challenge of a themed dish. This year’s key ingredient for the cook off dish will be Chocolate. The entry can be any dish including any type of Chocolate. All Units are encouraged to submit at least one entry. Troop 9005, winner of the 2014 Scrumdiddlyumptious Traveling Award, will be the hosts and judges for this year’s event. The unit with the winning dish will take home the traveling trophy until next year’s Camporee.
