<p> 4.1 : Bringing It Together: Finding, Evaluating and Organizing Information</p><p>Session Outline/ Agenda</p><p>Date/Time: Wednesday, May 3, 2006 9:30-1:30 (Coffee and bagels at 9 AM)</p><p>Place: BOCES – Poughkeepsie, NY</p><p>This interactive, hands-on session is designed to assist participants create a resource that potentially helps translate mandated guidelines into working local plans. The session activities focus on information relevant to pandemic influenza. Basic knowledge of Internet searching required. Session is designed for staff responsible for putting together the local health department responses. At the end of the session a basic web-ready document will be created.</p><p>Goal and Objectives:</p><p>Goal: To provide a fast-paced and practical hands-on session in which local health department employees will learn how to collect information to answer specific questions and address state mandates, to evaluate found information, and to develop an information resource both in print and electronic form.</p><p>At the end of this session, participants will be able to:</p><p>1). Find information to answer specific questions from multiple sources; 2). Evaluate the quality and integrity of information found on the web; 3). Gather, organize and present data in a printed format; 4). D. Cunningham 5/2/06 </p><p>Agenda</p><p>9:00-9:30 Welcome (Bagels and coffee/tea)</p><p>9:30–9:40 Introductions</p><p>9:40–10:15 Who, what, when, how and why? What is it that are we trying to accomplish? What is the purpose of an information resource guide? What are the questions the resource guide will be designed to answer? What are the state mandated areas that could be served by such a guide?</p><p>Brainstorming exercise: Each small group will identify at least five questions they want the resource guide to answer. Large group information sharing utilizing flip chart.</p><p>10:15–10:45 Overview: Evaluating web resources Reviewing examples; interactive discussion</p><p>10:45-11:30 Finding the best/high quality information: hands on Find the best/high quality sources of information which answer the questions identified (above). A list of quality sources of information will be available to get started, highlighting the Resource Guide for Public Health Preparedness.</p><p>11:30-11:45 Break and distribution of “lunch”</p><p>11:45-12:00 Brief group presentations What questions were answered? What resources were found?
