What do others admire about you?

I think that people most admire my kindness, empathy and ability to put people at their ease. This allows me to make use of my excellent interpersonal and team working skills. People would also consider me to be calm and pragmatic under pressure enabling me to make informed decisions and use my initiative to solve problems. I have been told this allows me to go above and beyond when helping others and I have often been commended for doing this. My personal and professional endeavours have enabled me to remain focused on the task at hand without getting overwhelmed. I am also considered patient and non-judgmental. Finding out what other people need is a key asset and using strong communication skills and my interpersonal skills, I am able to work with people of varying communication levels to ascertain their needs, wants and wishes. My friends and colleagues

3 have told me I have a strong work ethic and have previously worked both long and varying shifts displaying excellent flexibility. However, I have undertaken my duties and performed them to the best of my abilities, completing tasks in a timely and consistent manner. Finally I have been told that I am a quick study and pick up new tasks quickly and easily and that I am able to take all feedback well and react positively to it, learning from any error and continuing to build upon it and move forward.

Please continue on a separate sheet if necessary

What matters to you in your life (e.g. what you like to do, important people, what are your values etc)?

I have many varied interests in life. I enjoy reading both fiction and non-fiction. I also have a fascination with History, especially Military History which I enjoy researching and reading for my own enjoyment. I enjoy all sports, mainly as a fan now but I have previously played rugby, fencing and enjoyed sailing. Whilst playing rugby I represented my club at age grade, my school and university and the various units I served in during my time in the Royal Navy. I was also lucky enough to captain my age grade club team and represent both Swansea Schools and the clubs at district/county level.

Away from sport I enjoy keeping up to date with Current Affairs and follow politics so that I am able to make informed decisions and can understand the actions of government and how they affect us. I enjoy listening to music and attending cultural/theatrical events. I also use Social Media to help me keep up to date with both culture and current affairs and enjoy Twitter for both the commentary and the humour that can be found. On weekends, being fortunate to live in Swansea, I enjoy going out and walking around both the coast and down the Gower. During the summer I also like travelling further afield and visiting historical sites and museums away from Swansea. I enjoy socialising with friends and colleagues. This is both in person and through social media where I am able to keep in touch with my many friends who don’t live in Swansea or who are still serving in the Royal Navy or living in London from my time at University there. This also allows me to continue to develop a growing hobby in photography which I can then share on Instagram.

My family and friends are all important to me and especially the relationship I have with my father which is hugely important following the death of my mother. I have been incredibly fortunate in both my family and peer group who have made me both the person I am and allowed me to fully enrich my life. I am also lucky to have the love and support of my partner without whom I would be a much poorer person. I have a strong values base and believe wholeheartedly in doing the right thing and ensuring social justice. Honesty is always the best policy and compassion and loyalty are both very important to me. This is both in a personal and professional sense and during my career to date I have always tried to ensure that this guides my every action.

4 Please continue on a separate sheet if necessary DISCLOSURE OF CRIMINAL HISTORY

Due to the nature of the work for which you are applying, we are required to carry out enhanced DBS checks.
