<p>Graeser Award Established by the Alumni Association in 1954 in honor of the late Clarence A. Graeser, Professor of Modern Languages at the College of Charleston, this annual award recognizes one outstanding, graduating French, German or Spanish major as chosen by a committee representing the corresponding language departments.</p><p>NOMINATION RUBRIC FOR GRAESER AWARD Note: To be eligible for consideration, a student must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.5. Criteria for the award are as follows:</p><p>1. Exceptional achievement in the principal language, as indicated by high GPA in the language. 4.0: 50 pts</p><p>3.8-3.99: 40 pts</p><p>3.5-3.79: 20 pts</p><p>2. Study of others languages or cultures, or linguistics </p><p>- Major in another language: 30 pts</p><p>- Minor in another language, linguistics, comparative literature or major/minor in LACS, international business or international studies: 15 pts</p><p>- Level attained in another language (Each course in languages other than the principal language is worth 2 if taken with a conversation section.)</p><p>3. Study of another major not housed in the School of LCWA: 10 pts</p><p>4. Bachelor’s Essay on related topic (language, culture, etc.) with recommendation by advisor OR Two or more courses at the 400 level beyond what is required for the major or for a minor in another language, completed with an A: 10 pts</p><p>5. Contributions to the language program or the language community </p><p> a. Officer in a language club/honor society (per year and depending upon level of involvement): 5-8 pts</p><p> b. Significant role in one particular event not overlapping with club responsibility (e.g., film festival, language/culture fair, poetry readings, editing for foreign language publications, etc.) (0.25 point) c. Language-related non-profit activities in the community for which no academic credit is awarded (e.g., translating at a clinic, the port or a business). Per year: 3-5 pts; Per summer: 1 pt</p><p> d. Peer conversation teacher: 2 pts per year*</p><p> e. Global Scholar: 2 pts</p><p>*In cases where point difference is minimal between candidates, credit for this category may be withdrawn since this opportunity is not available to French and German majors.</p><p>6. Beyond classroom experience with the language or culture </p><p> a. Study abroad, internship abroad</p><p> a.i. Alternate spring break: 1 pt</p><p> a.ii.
