Students must take responsibility for their learning by completing all assigned homework in the timeframe outlined by the teacher. Homework will be checked regularly and collected occasionally to assess understanding. </p><p>LABS: Labs are an important part of any science course. Missed labs (excused only) will need to be made up at an assigned time – see the teacher or website. Students who are present for the lab and do not hand in the assigned lab report will receive a mark of zero. Each student will sign a lab safety contract to ensure that all students are well aware of the responsibility that goes with working in a lab. Students who do not follow the safety contract will no longer be permitted to work in the lab. Lab reports are due on the day indicated by the teacher. DEADLINES: Deadlines will be set for all assigned work. Students must ask for an extension prior to the deadline to set a new deadline to complete the work if needed. This must be done by the student. No extensions will be given to students without a legitimate reason. Students who miss the due date without a legitimate reason have missed the opportunity to complete the assignment, which will affect the student’s final grade. The student will not be given the opportunity to make up this assignment in the future. </p><p>MISSED WORK DURING ABSENCES: High school science courses require student commitment and students must take responsibility for achieving the learning outcomes. Students are responsible for ALL work missed regardless of the type of absence. If a student misses one or more classes due to illness, travel, sports, extracurricular activities, etc., the following process will be followed:</p><p>1. The student is responsible for obtaining notes for missed classes and completing all work that was done on the day(s) missed. Check the website or call a friend. 2. If an assignment was due, or a test/quiz was to be written on the day of the absence, the student will hand in the assignment or write the test/quiz on the first day back to school, provided that the missed day was an excused absence. 3. If an assignment was given on the day of the absence, the student should contact the teacher to determine the deadline for handing in the missed assignment. Students are responsible for checking the website as they are expected to complete homework if absent. Email the teacher if you are having problems or need an extension.</p><p>EXTRA HELP: Extra help will be Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday at lunch.</p><p>WEB PAGE: Homework, assignments, and due dates will be posted on our class website. If you are missing from class it is an expectation that you will review the material covered in class and attempt the work assigned. </p><p>SCIENCE JOURNALS: Journals will be assigned throughout the semester. In these journals, students will use writing to demonstrate their understanding of the concepts covered in class, examine the connections between concepts and describe how science applies to the world around them.</p><p>Classroom Rules and Expectations:</p><p>1. Be on time for class and come prepared. Regular attendance is essential for success. 2. Respect others and be courteous. No disruptive behaviors! 3. Catch up on missed work if you miss a class. 4. Practice safety in the lab at all times and follow lab procedures. 5. Pass in assignments/labs on time. 6. No cell phones!</p><p>Good luck in the course and remember to stay on top of your work and seek help early if you encounter difficulties.
