
<p>Rafting – Student Gear List</p><p>CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT NEEDS</p><p>The river environment can be wet and cold. Bring lots of warm clothing, good food and drinks. It is essential that you bring all of the items on this list, other than the optional extras. Tick each item as you collect it and again as you pack it. </p><p>FOR PADDLING</p><p> Windproof paddling jacket (not the same as your waterproof parka) Polypro pants Polypro tops Bathing costume (togs) Wetsuit (bibbed/sleeveless ideal) Wetsuit booties/runners with warm socks (no aqua socks) </p><p>FOR CAMPING </p><p> Warm sleeping bag (winter rating, 4 season) Sleeping mat: Thermarest / closed-cell foam bed roll Small torch Lighter, candle Plastic bowl (dinner & cereal) Knife, fork, spoon Plastic mug/cup Dry footwear for camp (old sandshoes) Small towel, biodegradeable soap Pack (min 80 litre) or dive bag for storage of gear Plastic pack liner</p><p>GEAR HIRE</p><p>Wetsuits and booties available for hire from Unipol recreation Services.</p><p>Booties, wetsuits and paddle jackets can also be hired from Wild Earth Adventures - Wetsuits $10 per day, Booties $5 per day, Paddle Jackets $5 per day. These can be paid for & picked up after the first meeting. CLOTHING</p><p>No cotton, trackpants, jeans or hoodies </p><p>Shell layer Quality waterproof parka with hood (not for paddling) Over-trousers (waterproof) </p><p>Underlayer Underwear Polypro or wool long johns (x 2 min) Polypro or wool long sleeve shirts (x 2 min) Wool socks polypro or wool tee shirts (x 2) </p><p>Insulation layer Wool Jersey or fleece jacket. Fleece/wool pants Mid weight fleece/wool top Polypro / wool mittens or gloves Polypro or wool balaclava or hat</p><p>OTHER ITEMS</p><p> Sun hat Sunglasses, with retaining strap A drink bottle Lots of sun block Pen and paper Money for meals on the road Spare plastic bags to keep clothes dry Personal hygiene needs Personal First Aid Kit - bandaids, roll of sleek, insect repellent ("Dimp") sunburn cream, Personal Medication - inhaler?, anakit?, pills? </p><p>FOOD</p><p> Plenty of snacks (bring more if you are a big eater) </p><p>OPTIONAL EXTRAS</p><p> Cell foam mat for seat (40 cm x 40 cm) Camera, (ideally waterproof) Reading material </p>
